A tragic accident
« on: November 17, 2018, 10:19:17 am »
A while ago we had an accident whilst screwing one of our lamps into the lamp holder, I felt inspired to put pen to paper, or whatever the electronic equivalent is and write a short poem:

Our lamp filled up with smoke
Poor Thomas has gone and broke
There was the sound of a crack
Now we’ll never get him back
At nearly 70 years old
They’re no longer sold

 :incandescent:  :(

Because it was a rare lamp I had given him a name.

LED lighting has its place in the home or other indoor uses, but outdoors in street lights is in my opinion not one of them.

You give practically everything a name  :D

He was a 1950 GE 1000W GLS lamp, I'd had him for 40 years before I managed to get a step-down transformer with enough capacity to light him. We did have him on a few times, then I managed to exert just a little too much force screwing him into the lampholder, and crack...  :-[

We do have him on display in the corner of the living room though, see here  :)

I don't completely dislike LED's, I just don't like them for street lighting.
