Title: blade runner umbrella?
Post by: bryantm3 on August 05, 2012, 09:48:02 PM
hi, just a quick post. i'm not very technical so i wouldn't know how to do this, but i'm trying to think a way to rig up an umbrella where the rod is lit consistently from all angles, like in the film:

in the movie they did it with neon which would use too much electricity for portable use.

they make one at thinkgeek, but it only uses LEDs at the base and the further you go up the umbrella it gets darker— in addition the product is basically like a toy light saber with an umbrella on the top, not exactly high quality.

anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

thanks!

daniel

Well, if you could some how get your hands on a clear plastic tube you could run LED rope light up the tube with batteries at the base.
