National Grid owns all the lights here, but if the city won't "red cap" the lights they certainly won't take them down. they'll raise taxes instead. :(

Hmm I didn't see this before :p  I believe the streetlights in my area are town owned too and I've never really saw them red cap any lights here.

That is really bad that the city can't pay the streetlights electricity bill and there goes the neighborhood in the dark >:( :(

I don't know where and how they get the money to pay the streetlight at the said neighborhood ???

As I read my neighborhood article (http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/index.php?topic=332.0) scandal, at least I know that we pay streetlight usage through our utility bills.

All electric companies I can think of will charge the streetlight rental to the municipality and the municipality will pay for it through taxes. So in a way, we actually DO pay for the streetlights.

Toronto actually sold off their streetlights in 2005 or so to the utility company so they don't own them anymore.
