Title: How to open photocell?
Post by: gramirez2012 on April 26, 2011, 02:16:32 PM
I'd like to adjust the light shield on the inside of my Tork photocell, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it open. Any ideas?  ???

I first try stretching the casing with my right thumb and index finger. With my left hand i try to pull out the black part by pulling on the prongs. If that doesn't work, I try putting a long necked flathead screwdriver in one of the three slots holding the cover to the case. (you need to lift the gasket off a bit to do this.) the, pry the photocell open gently as to not crack it. hope this information helps. Some phtocells are easier to open than others.

I have cheap one that's glued together that I didn't try to open but for the others, streetlight98's instructions should get it open.

A tip is to warm up the outer with a hot air gun gently, to soften the plastic first, and lessen the chances of it cracking. It just has to be warm enough that it is uncomfortable to hold, but not so hot is cannot be held in your palm. Just do not heat the connector too much, as it will melt the base. That should make the unit easier to pop open, though you might want to experiment on a few cheap ones first.

Yes, I totally left out the warming part by mistake. Yes do that too. As I said, some photocells are easier to open than others.

UPDATE:
A lot of older PCs, as well as current DTL PCs are screwed on. If there are indents on the sides of the PC, it's a screw-held PC. Just remove the gasket and you'll find three phillips head screws.
