Title: This month's award for the best lighting joke!
Post by: Vince on December 28, 2010, 06:31:41 PM
Check  this  (http://cgi.ebay.ca/18W-LED-PAR38-Light-Replaces-300W-Incandescent-/280609232777?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41559d1789) out. The seller claims this 18W LED lamp can replace a 300W incandescent!

That makes a theorical efficiency of .... 300 lm/W! Say 5 410 lm for a 300W incandescent. Divided by 18W it gives 300.55555... lm/W!

That joke made my day XD

EDIT: I checked back the ad, and the LED lamp has a light output of 1 710 lm. That makes 95 lm/W and makes the lamp suitable as a 100W replacement, not 300W!

But still, the 18W <--> 300W comparison is hilarious! XD

I think that this is an online fraud in Ebay, since in Ebay, the descriptions of the products offered for sales, are written by the people that offers the products for sale themselves.
They may use exaggerated or misleading descriptions to increase the selling of the product, before the selling will end.
Ebay should be able to detect online frauds and ban them.
