Why walmart's emergency generator was operated at all? Was there a power interruption?
Also why the lamps, which operated by programmed start electronic ballasts, flickered like preheat magnetic ballast and a glow starter when the generator was running out of fuel before completely went out?
What are the lights that remains on after the lights wents out?

I guess the power completely went out
the timing varies depending on how close to EOL the lamps are, the closer to EOL ones take a little longer to strike. making the lights randomly blink
i think the remaining lights were battery backup incandescents

I see that while all of the emergency lighting in Europe and Israel uses fluorescent lamps and LEDs, most of the US emergency lighting uses incandesent lamps!!! why???
I never saw an incandescent emergency lights in Israel. Even when i was a child in the late 80', all of the emergency lighting were fluorescents.

For variety of reason why we have incandescent emergency lights in our market.  It is cheaper to build and buy incandescent emergency light.  In the past, they have used low voltage PAR floodlight.  Lately, they have been using patio light bulb instead...  It is not bright as the old PAR bulb though...

I like the PARs better, they do still sell and make them, but more expensive....and nobody wants to pay extra.....

Also...I believe I have seen LPS, but they could just be overnight security lights. I have seen them lit in some places before

We also have some battery powered ballasts inside normal troffer fixtures, which would stay on during power outs...

That look pretty cool do you have a picture or a link to a manufacturers page Jace?

I've seen some newer buildings use a recessed emergency light that's like recessed can with a MR16 lamp for 12V systems or a GU10 lamp for 120V systems.

I've also seen some fluorescent troffers here that had the battery powered ballasts inside.

Some older buildings here use PARs but I don't see a lot of new ones being installed.

Funny thing is at Target, if it was under generator, not ALL the lights are lit, only select ones! And I also noticed in some parts of the stores had ALL row lights on...and some parts only spot of fluorescent light stay lit....

My school used to have 400w MH lights in the gym. Those light didn't have generators, but there were a couple of  two lamp 8' T12 lights high up in the beams that came on  only when the power was out. Now my school replaced the MH lights with 6 lamp T8 fixtures on motion sensors. The old T12 lights used for back up were gutted, even though the 4 fixtures are still hiding up there. I'm assuming some of the new MH replacements are on back up but can't confirm that since the power hasn't gone out there since they replaced the lights.
