Title: The controlling of the on/off turning of the street lighting in Israel
Post by: dor123 on May 12, 2010, 04:58:41 AM
Even if in many settlements in Israel the street lighting still operated with a timer or a photocell (Like in Kibbutz Givat Hayim Ichood). in Haifa, Nesher and perhaps other settlements this is not the case.
In the begining of the year 2000, Haifa replaced the time switches and photocells in almost all its street lighting groups with remote controlled street lighting controllers of the israelis Menora group named: ITC-T. This is a contoller that is remote contrelled (Wired or wireless) by just a Windows software called Wizcon installed on a PC computer. With this controller it is possible to set the on/off times using a remote computer instead of the controller itself and it is also possible to set the time to be updated by an astronomical clock so that the street lighting will emulate an operation with a photocell.
By the way there are also a ITC-T controller to control the ballasts of the street lights themselves (Computerizing the street lighting system). It can use for saving energy on street lighting by dimming or completely turning off part of the group of the street lighting. it can also alert to the computer of problems with each street light (Ie.. ballast, lamp and connection failures or the streetlight don't turned on). But for this controller to operate, ALL of the street lighting (Regardless of lamp wattage) MUST have an electronic ballast with a dimming option and the controller can communicate with the ballasts using a DALI protocol only (DMX-512 and other protocols willn't work). So this ITC-T ballasts recommended to operate only with Eltam's electronic ballasts for HID ballasts which uses DALI protocol.
