Title: East Deer Township street lights will be replaced with LED's soon
Post by: chapman84 on March 02, 2018, 07:44:05 PM
Sadly, East Deer Township has decided to have all of their mercury vapor and high pressure sodium street lights replaced like many other municipalities have in West Penn Power's area.

Many cities and towns in Rhode Island are going LED as well. Providence, Cranston, Central Falls, North Smithfield, West Warwick, Barrington, and Bristol are among those who have completed their conversion. Cumberland, Hopkington, North Providence, East Providence, and others are considering or have begun the process of converting. Thankfully the mercury vapor-rich places like North Kingstown, Westerly, Newport, and Jamestown have not officially announced conversion plans yet. I'm sure it will change, as the state's goal is to have all LED street lighting by year 2021.

Ugh. I haven't heard of any "statewide goals" here, probably because there are lots of small rural towns that maintain their own streetlighting. I hope it stays that way for a while, I recently found out that the utility has no intentions of replacing the HPS and MV NEMAS with LEDs.

A lot of cities and towns in Ontario have either converted or are looking to convert to LEDs.

Of the ones in the GTA, Toronto still hasn't converted to HPS although test fixtures have gone up. Brampton still hasn't converted but I believe they use LEDs for some installs, the Brampton members would probably know more. Mississauga and Markham is mostly LED. Certain places in both cities like traffic signal pole mounted lights are still HPS and some streets in Markham have yet to be converted. Richmond Hill and Vaughan have LED lit side streets and HPS arterials. Newmarket and Aurora are mostly LED now too. Over here most cities and towns maintain their own streetlighting so there are some that had MV and even in one case fluorescent until recently.
