I stumbled upon a photo series with a lot of Toronto night scenes taken in the 50s and 60s.

Note the still large number of incandescents in Toronto at the time and the relatively few MV installations.

Love it! So much cool lighting and neon! I missed out on most of the neon stuff. I do vaguely remember a little bit of neon as a kid. Mainly those "OPEN" signs and indoor neon in stores. Not so much exterior neon. Most indoor neon was simply removed with no lighted replacement and those OPEN signs were superseded by LED ones. Pretty much all exterior neon was already fluorescent by the time I was born and now it's all on its way to LEDs.
BTW, the "sutton place" picture got my attention. Interestingly, there is a street named Sutton Place in Cranston lol. (https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7810051,-71.4513668,3a,20.7y,208.83h,86.38t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sdTuK1VAQuYVekpr2o4RVdg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en) Only a small section of the road is actually called Sutton Place. The stretch of road is also called Humbert Ave and Columbus Blvd. The portion called Sutton has no power lines on it. All the houses are fed off the intersecting streets (the portion of street with no powerlines is Sutton and the rest of the street with the power lines is the part with the other names).

It sure is a shame that future generations are never going to get to see stuff like this when LED has been uniformized and there is absolutely no variety in lighting technologies anymore. :(
