Title: Greedy sellers on ebay
Post by: chapman84 on February 22, 2017, 07:12:27 PM
Getting vintage HID street lights is hard enough as it is and to make matters worse, there are a lot of sellers on ebay who list used street lights at unreasonable prices. Mercury vapor street lights are cool, but they're not antiques. If they were an incandescent street light from the 40's or a NOS mercury vapor street light, that's different, but a 50 year old street light with normal wear is not worth that much. I could literally get an old street light from a power company for $20. That's all they're worth anyway. Though I would pay up for $40 for one on ebay, but no more than that. Anything above $40 is really unreasonable. I also don't like when they use words like "steampunk" and other BS rhetoric to describe their items. I messaged a woman on ebay today about a GE M-250R and other old street lights for sale and she said she would take $85 for each. Hell no! I'm not giving you that much money for something that old. It bothers me how greedy a lot of people are today. If you ever come across an older street light for sale on ebay and the seller wants too much for it, don't buy it. These people are crooks and I'm not going to give them more for used street lights than they're actually worth. I'm gonna be very honest. I know I have done a lot of things wrong, but I never tried to rip people off. I can look at myself in the mirror and sleep at night knowing that.

Do you really want it? I could contact the seller and make them the same or a similar offer. Maybe if another buyer contacts them and makes a low offer they will see that their price is too high.
Sellers usually look at history to see what items sell for. When somebody pays an outrageous price for an item, all it does is makes sellers think they can get that much for their item.
I'm guilty of doing that. I overpay a lot. Only because I really want the item, and maybe the seller wouldn't lower the price.

I did want it, but I didn't want to pay that much for an old light, especially if it might not work so I messaged her back and told her I wasn't interested. I'll keep looking though.
