Title: Professional Lighting Engineer
Post by: joe_347V on July 31, 2014, 03:05:30 AM
I guess this title can seem kind of misleading to people who aren't familiar with the site lol. Anyway what do you guys think we should replace the title with if it turns out that people want a different title.

I don't know :-\

Do you have better idea?

Why don't we just use the regular "Newbie", "full member" "Hero member", etc?

Or, if we want somethign creative, have something like this

"Light Emiting Diode" for one star
"High Pressure Sodium" for two stars
"Metal Halide" for three stars
"Mercury Vapor" for four stars
"Incandescent" for five stars

The more stars you have, the older your streetlight light source is. and maybe have the light bulb icons that appear have the light source that matches the name like a person with two stars would have two HPS light bulbs? We dont have an LED or MH icon though.

Sounds good to me. Actually I was the one who created those titles back in 2009 LOL.

Though associating a rank with a light source sounds a little biased, like... It'd suggest LED being the worst and incandescent the best LOL. Plus we're using bulbs as icons, so it wouldn't work anyway.  As an admin with mercury lamp icons I'd be titled as MH, which makes no sense xD

If you guys don't mind I'll suggest an entire new set of rank titles, and I have some ideas already! If you approve them I'll do the change!

For example we could have different lighting devices as ranks, like a night light for newbies and going progressively bigger with higher ranks.

Or we could simply replace that particular title which is indeed misleading a bit LOL.

well if you are MH then you'd have MH bulbs too. same for incandescent, HPS, etc. I just think the Professional Lighting Engineer thing seems a little snobby lol since I've had a member use that against me before, basically calling me a know-it-all. I'm like "I'm not the one who did that and I can't control it" well, i can if i delete like a ton of forum posts lol

Hmm, would you prefer we just replace that particular title then? It does seem that particular title is causing the most trouble especially with newer members of the site who think that the titles represent a user's knowledge.

Currently the titles are:

Newbie - 0 to 99 posts
Lighting enthusiast - 100 to 299 posts
Lighting collector - 300 to 699 posts
Lighting expert - 700 to 999 posts
Professional lighting engineer - 1000+ posts

In case any or you are wondering.

I'm happy with no titles to be honest but it really doesn't matter. Just pissed me off when it was brought up to me (though I couldn't tell you who it was, I don't remember. :-\ ) but it's no biggie I guess.

I like the "ranking" idea but maybe get rid of the titles or do something like "Rookie Member", "Junior Member", up to "Senior Member or "Full Member", etc? I'd just get rid of it though entirely since the above suggestion of mine could also be misinterpreted as snobbish...
