Title: LEDs In RHODE ISLAND
Post by: Mike on November 19, 2013, 06:13:56 PM
Pascoag District has changed their lights in Burrillville to LEDs. See  here.  (http://www.providencejournal.com/breaking-news/content/20131117-r.i.-takes-first-step-toward-brighter-future-with-energy-efficient-streetlights.ece)

Currently NGrid is not offering LED street lights but the RI General Assembly has recently passed a law that allows cities and towns to purchase their lights and then in turn switch them out to LEDs. NGrid plans to start installing LED test piolets "as early as next year". Oh boy. :( I better clear up some space in the shed... lol

In the article it mentioned South Kingstown and Westerly were looking into LED lights, which is really bad since that area is mostly mercs still! Providence converted the majority of their acorn post tops to induction. They're dim but a much more pleasant light than the LEDs. the main reason they're dim is because the HPS and MH lamps in them before were low wattage too (150 or less)

Unlucky you to be the first nation to be doing this LED changeover. I guess LED's will become common in your city over time then :-\

The underbraced arms with R37's ,post tops, and twistpaks near my school are being upgraded this month to short concrete poles with OVF's that will possibly be LED. LED OVF's are being installed around my city. I think subdivisions look better with LED anyways.

You'll just have to see how many dayburning LED's there will be in R.I. They have trouble with controlling them here . Half of them I see are day burning.. lol

yeah it'll be sad to know that all those cobraheads will be scrapped when LEDs invade. even those most of the cobraheads here are HPS, at least they're nice looking compared to the skillets that they pass off as light fixtures.

LOL if you don't like "Illuminated Waffles" then the town of Craig, AK is not the place for you! The first lights I saw were (In order) a 70w HPS DuraStar, some cheapo plastic CFL yardblasters, and LED streetlights! I thought they were MV at first though judging from their glow.
