Title: Lights and Traffic signals etc.

There are lots of lights here. If I see a crew worker I might ask him for one or two. :)

The Model 25 was missing its lens and so was the OV-25.

Interesting, I think I see a R47 and some AEL 125s too. Happen to find any B2227/R37s too?

Hope you can get a couple fixtures, since there are also signals in the pile I think you should try contacting Guild Electric as they specifically deal with signals in Brampton.

There is 1 R37, no B2227's I don't recall ever seeing a B2227. I know of 2 Westinghouses in the pile too.

the B2227 and R37 are the same thing. the newer ones were called the R37 while the older ones were the B2227. I'd snag some of those nice PCs!

Yeah the B2277 became the R37 in the 80s when the nameplates changed to say Sylvania instead of Powerlite.

Those grey PCs look like they might be Lumatrol electronic ones as my R47 and B2255 came with them.

The one with the white paint is the one i want. It's the Model 25, the only thing is that its missing its lens. I remember exactly where all those lights were before they ended up there. I wanna get one but I never see a crew line worker whenever I walk by.  :-\ :(

the paint may look white but cobraheads are actually light gray. up in canada though it looks like mot fixtures are bare though.

Yeah, most lights used in Canada are bare which weathers to a dark silvery grey colour over time but the Model 25 looks like it would have been painted light grey originally.

I always thought it was white coating.

I have gone by this again. I identified only one R37 there. Most of those are R47's AEL125's, Westinghouse OV-15's,Cooper OVZ, and Cooper OVX's.

Looks like a good assortment of lights. Hope you can get some too.

The only intersection I know of in Brampton with CGE ped signals with timers on them. All the ped signals are CGE at this intersection, No Fortran or Eagle Durasig. Also I think this might be one of the oldest intersections still up today.

Shoebox lights. These are my favourite by Sylvania lights. Not many left around here but its nice to see them still in use.

Cool pics, I didn't know Brampton also converted the CGE peds to countdown like Toronto did too.

The CGE peds had at least 3-4 different variations in the design too. The first one (1950-1960?) had a smooth top and bottom and a GE logo centred on the back. The 2nd type (1970s) had a bumpy top and bottom and the GE logo on the back was moved closer to the top. Also the text "Made in Canada" was added too.

The 3rd type (1980s) looked like the 2nd type but the GE logo was replaced with the CGE logo in a rectangular box. The 4th type was made by Fortran so it had a Fortran logo on the back but it still looked the same as the other CGEs.

On the stretch with the highmasts, I wonder if MTO is considering widening it, I think it gets pretty congested during rush hour.

The shoeboxes are quite rarely used as streetlights in the GTA too, I think Erin Mills near the 403, and North York near the Yonge/Sheppard and Yonge/Finch area are the only other places that still have them.

Yea its the only CGE's with timers on it here. It looks like the second one actually. I have heard about the 410 possible widening from clark blvd to bovaird. It does I try avoiding being on that highway.  :)  Yea but the shoebox models in Brampton look much better than York and Erin Mills. They are painted better here too.

I found  pics from 1996 of Davit poles on Clark Blvd.
I believe that is a R47 on the pole. Currently there is a R47 there.

Interesting, pictures. I didn't know Brampton had davit arms before. You have the link where you got the pics from?

A site my grandfather showed me and as I went through I saw the davit poles they used to use on this street.

Fortran Hanger. Double Guy arm!!! Very few of them left.

Interesting, York Region, Markham and Toronto still has some old double guys with hangers left.

The aluminium left turn signal is probably a LFE aluminium or a Eagle Mark IV. It was originally incandescent but it looks like they converted it to LED now.

Yea I think its a Eagle Mark IV. I know its not aluminum. There are only 3 double guy arms here and 2 of them are going to be taken down because of road expansion. This will be the last one here.

More pics I took

Another Model 25

McGraw Unidoor 400. I don't see many of these here. I only see them a lot in Oakville and parts of York region.

OVX the new prismatic refractors. Was a R47 before this was put here. I like this one better than the normal OVX.

CGE 8-8-8. The last hanger version left in Brampton and this one might come down. Construction down the road 20 feet or so from there.

Hmm, if it's a Mark IV it's a aluminium light since they were never made in poly (GTE did but I never see their signals in Ontario) Interesting that a hanger mounted CGE 8-8-8 is still in use in Brampton. What's the intersection it's on so I could look it up on Google?

The Westy light is a OV-15 but I'm not sure if it's a later Cooper one or a Westy one. The way to tell is from where the PC socket is but this one dosen't have one.

These are all the hanger 8-8-8's in Brampton. Only the Dixie one is still there. (1)

(3) Its a Fortran in the streetview but it was about a month before then it was replaced.

Ahh, it looks like Brampton is rapidly replacing the last of their 8-8-8s. I believe Toronto started mass changing them out in the late 2000s with the last three removed by early 2012.

(http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/albums/userpics/normal_PB023817.JPG) (http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-9279)

One of the last 8-8-8s in Toronto, pic was taken in November 2011. It was replaced with a TCT poly in February 2012. Also remained fully incandescent for almost two years after the last incandescent signals in Toronto were retrofitted.

York Region seemed to be the first to replace the 8-8-8s though, I believe by the mid-2000s they were all gone.

This is the only pic I took of a 8-8-8 in Markham. It's a video still from a video shot in spring 2004 or so. By 2006-2007 all the signals at this intersection would be replaced with 12-8-8 Eagle Durasigs (still hanger mounted though). Unfortunately my camera at the time took horrible pictures and videos. :(

Mississauga still has some 8-8-8s left though.

A pair of Fortran 8-8-8s (https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=43.584432,-79.550993&spn=0.007974,0.021136&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=43.584368,-79.550909&panoid=D8eHUTzAoGtWpv8QmZl0zQ&cbp=12,301.4,,0,-2.2)

Oddly they're new enough to be plastic, and plumbizer mounted. Another odd thing is the 8-8-8 on the right hand pole. Normally a 12-8-8 is used.

Ancient CGE 8-8-8 (https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=43.619534,-79.598436&spn=0.007969,0.021136&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=43.619612,-79.598333&panoid=pA6G-ASG9PKvwHaD7Z5yPQ&cbp=12,131.62,,1,-26.81)

It's probably from either the 50s or 60s as it still has the first gen CGE back. Newer CGE 8-8-8 on the opposite side of the intersection.

Dixie near Dundas (https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=43.611059,-79.586463&spn=0.003985,0.010568&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=43.61112,-79.586549&panoid=uY7RsE6vRovxqz7E72-WGA&cbp=12,212.83,,2,-11.62)

I believe this one dates to either the 70s or the 80s...

Dixie Road has been a hot spot for 8-8-8's I always knew the Mississauga ones were there. Brampton was surprising seeing them. The Northern part of Toronto seems to still have quite a few of them. Interesting, the 8-8-8's in your pic look like Fortran hangers. Unless its just the quality that made it look that way.
Title: Re: Lights and Traffic signals etc.
Post by: joe_347V on July 11, 2013, 04:06:05 PM
Unfortunately all the 8-8-8s left in North York (which stayed incandescent and had a ton of 8-8-8s the longest) were removed starting in mid 2009. By the summer of 2010 they were all gone and the 12-8-8s converted to LED.

I'm not sure of the model of signal used in my pic since the video is so bad but it's probably either a new looking CGE, Fortran, or a Eagle Mark IV.

Also I found this weird setup in Toronto today:

(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/102661519/Lighting/GoL_Pics/Signals/2013-07-11%2016.00.04M.jpg) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/102661519/Lighting/GoL_Pics/Signals/2013-07-11%2016.00.04.jpg)

Fortran pedestrian signal arm mounted using a plumbizer, O_o I've seen them arm mounted before but with a hanger.

AHaha yes I have seen those. They are strange looking I don't know why they wouldn't just use a hanger for it or have on the side of the pole. Plumbizer ped signals is just a weird setup.
Title: Re: Lights and Traffic signals etc.
Post by: joe_347V on July 12, 2013, 01:16:52 AM
Yeah, a hanger would have looked better and less odd. And plus they had to uncouple the sections to add a plumbizer so extra work was needed. :P

Waterloo region seems to like using hanger mounted pedestrian signals though.

Post by: Model25FanForever on July 12, 2013, 06:43:28 AM
I don't know why they would go through the extra trouble for that. The only way I could think of it making sense would be if the other side of the intersection was on higher ground. I know of some hangers for ped signals here in Brampton. They are put in spots that will actually have a purpose. I have to go to Waterloo one of these days.

Post by: joe_347V on July 12, 2013, 10:17:29 PM
I've seen Toronto mount the ped signals higher up if scaffolding blocks one mounted at the normal height but it wasn't the case there so I really don't know.

I actually went by the other intersection that had it yesterday. Coincidence? http://goo.gl/maps/WuSkq
Title: Re: Lights and Traffic signals etc.
Post by: joe_347V on July 13, 2013, 03:04:01 PM
Interesting, I find it odd a older style arm was used. The intersection seems new enough to have never used CGE equipment though.
Title: Re: Lights and Traffic signals etc.
Post by: Model25FanForever on July 13, 2013, 04:04:56 PM
It used to have a hanger ped signal before adding the timers I think it used to be CGE if there was one there before. Off topic here, I was going down Dixie today. Starting from Eastgate parkway all the way to Dundas Is now being completely transferred to LED they are taking down the Coopers OVX's, AE 125's and R7's and all LED's! All with new up sweep arms. The new Concrete poles going in there are going to be put up soon. (The LED's on the Powerline poles were dayburning ). The 8-8-8's there are going to come down soon along with all the CGE signals there.  :o

Post by: joe_347V on July 14, 2013, 01:53:07 PM
Hmm, I guess they changed out almost everything at that intersection then.

I guess you could say that they are upgrading everything from Eastgate to Dundas.

You should try and see if you could save some lights if you catch the crews. One of the 8-8-8s would be a nice save too, even though they're LED they represent a type of traffic light that's almost extinct in the GTA.
Title: Re: Lights and Traffic signals etc.
Post by: Model25FanForever on July 15, 2013, 07:53:36 AM
The bad part is. I don't go down there often  :(

If I happen to see it I will ask the crew for it. I like the one that is at that plaza entrance in the middle the most.

Sounds cool! I believe the 8-8-8 at the South-East corner of Dixie/Winding Trail is the oldest but any 8-8-8 would be a nice save.
