Title: eBay Finds of the Week!
Post by: joe_347V on March 12, 2013, 12:27:51 AM
Found some Cooper LED cobraheads on eBay. Looks like they're preproduction samples as most of them do not have the proper name plates and tags on them. No shipping to Canada or international though.  :(

OVZ grey (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cooper-Lumark-LED-Street-Light-Small-Cobra-Head-/200904814075?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec6dc2dfb)

OVX (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cooper-Lumark-LED-Street-Light-Large-Cobra-Head-/200904816563?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec6dc37b3)

OVZ black (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cooper-Lumark-LED-Street-Light-Cobra-Head-/200903058882?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec6c165c2) Also comes with a carrying case, O_o.

Universal 205 preheat ballast, (http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-205-PRE-HEAT-BALLAST-HPF-FOR-2-40-WATT-LAMPS-118V-60HZ-85-AMPS-/370733524217?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item565170a4f9) for 2 x F40T12, Tulamp style. Dates to September 1966 according someone on LG who bought one from this seller.

the ovz is a refit since the housing is a pre-2004 version (old hinges). nice how they left the PC hole unplugged. Someone will install it and that thing will fill up with the first rainstorm lol. the OVH is interesting with the fact that it has a carrying case lol. it's factory too since it has the labels. the universal ballast is nice! too expensive for me though even if it is vintage. A newer preheat ballast at a fraction of the cost will work just as well IMO.

Well, here's what's in my bookmarks for ebay:

 advance T17 ballast  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Advance-Fluorescent-Lamp-Ballast-S-285-89G562-T-17-/120747831630?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1d21b14e)
 newer advance t17 ballast (http://www.ebay.com/itm/130657456856)
 NOS GE M-250A2 powr/module  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/GE-R-P-Ballast-ASM-70W-120V-M2AR07S1N-00662050160570-/230521677333?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35ac29a615)

 magnetek preheat (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnetek-Universal-205-TC-P-Ballast-for-2-F40T12-Bulbs-NEW-Free-Shipping-/251213316006?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7d7affa6)

 advance preheat f40  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ADVANCE-AD-LITE-FLUORESCENT-LAMP-BALLAST-AD-240-YH-321-/360592028828?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D6153686854786396300%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D5%26sd%3D160653945802%26)

Ahh thanks for the info on the LED cobras. Yeah that Universal ballast was nice but there's some cheaper two lamp ones still on eBay. I've seen the T17 and the Magnetek preheat ballasts a while back but it's nice to know they are still for sale. Maybe if I can afford it, I'll try to see if I can get a Magnetek preheat ballast and one of the newer T17 ballasts. Then I just need the lamps, starters and starter sockets to make myself a T17 fixture.

I didn't know about the Advance F40 preheat though, the postal zone on the address (as opposed to a ZIP code) suggests it might be from the 60s or earlier. Also you can see that the Advance preheat wires up exactly like my Universal 203, without the lead lamps starter going into a starting compensator. I'm not actually sure why they had two designs at the same time though. Both types seem to be lead-lag type ballasts.

Also I'm not sure how much shipping will be but there's someone on LG selling a bunch of F90T17 lamps (http://www.lighting-gallery.net/index.php?topic=2944.msg18930) for 175 a case which is a pretty good deal if you need a whole case. According to Aaron's pics he also has other types of rare and interesting fluorescents.

I could always use some T17s for the fixtures I'll have someday but I don't have room to store the lamps and I certainly don't have $175 to spend on lamps, even if I'm getting 175 lamps for that price. I aggree it's an awesome deal but I don't have the money for them. :-\ the cheapest i can find F90T17s sold as units is  here, at $21.50 each  (http://www.normanlamps.com/product_info.php/cPath/115_116_298/products_id/195?osCsid=k2e3de85gok3aa5n65pfqt92v1) which is a little rediculous but a bargain compared to what other places sell them at. The lamps were probably only a little over $5 back in the day. :8)
