Title: My Collection
Post by: lightdude789 on February 03, 2013, 04:26:17 PM
Hello all! Here's part of my lighting collection for your viewing pleasure. Will post more of it later. In the meantime, enjoy! :D

Starting with this Lithonia "Hi-Tek" high-bay fixture. Came out of a school gymnasium. Features a 250 watt metal halide lamp, and a
Quartz Restrike system. Quartz bulb was burnt out, though. :( Manufactured in 1991.

Next, a Lithonia Wallpack fixture, dated 1991 as well. Uses an HPS lamp, can't remember the wattage, though.

Lithonia HPS recessed fixture. Bulb is 70 watts (If I remember correctly)

Lithonia industrial fluorescent, circa 1992. Originally had a T12, 277 volt ballast. Swapped it out for obvious reasons.

Lithonia Wall mounted fluorescent. Has a unique, wood grain side trim. Had to swap the ballast for same reasons above.

Another wall mount fluorescent, by Lithonia. This one is dated 1991.

Nice lights! Welcome to the GoL! i'm mike. BTW, you can post your pictures in the gallery section. ;) I see you like T8 better than T12? Or is T8 all you have access to?

Thank you, Mike! I'm Daniel! I prefer T12, but the only spares I had were T8. :(

Ahh. Yeah magnetic T12 ballasts aren't sold anymore so they're a little harder to come by. They still make electronic T12 ballasts, but those pretty much instant start the lamps which takes all the entertainment of watching the lamps turn on lol.

Yup, exactly!

Welcome to GoL Daniel! I'm Joseph.

I like the Lithonia recessed square and the turret industrial lume. BTW you can still get T12 magnetic ballast off of eBay and from smaller hardware stores.

You can also post your pictures on the gallery section as I find that section gets more visitors than the forum.

Thanks, Joseph! I tried uploading to the galleries, but it won't allow me to.

As promised:

First off with this track-light lamp, that came out of my basement. Anyone have info on these? My house's previous owners Jerry rigged it to be hardwired, via splicing off the plug. It also overheated after they used R20 bulbs. I had rewired it, but to cut the cord later for another project.

Sighted the very same lamp elsewhere:

Now moving on to my showcase of octagon fixtures. Always had a thing for these.

Unknown model, circa 1990-1991. Came out of my mom's coworker's apartment. Anyone have info?

Another unknown, circa mid 90s. I suspect it to be Progress Lighting. Had the very same one in my basement, but it overheated. From looking at the UL issue number, this one is slightly newer than the other I had. Anyone have info on this one? Please note that mounting bracket isn't original.

Not vintage, but a Hampton Bay from 2001. Got it from my neighbor.

Maxim Lighting model, from the same neighbor. Originally installed in 1989. I've seen many variations of the Maxim version, all from the same era.

Another Maxim I got NIB at Habitat. Installed it in my basement. Was a PITA to align evenly, due to how the electrical box was installed.

BTW, i wanted to let you know your highbay has some code violations. :o :(

Here's how i'd rewire it (not to attack you or anything):
Use a grounded supply wire and use romex staples to properly attatch it to the ceiling instead of the existing cable
Install a cover on the juction box with an outlet on it and connect the romex to it
Attatch a hardwired plug to the high bay's cord and plug the cord into the outlet on the new juction box.

All these products can easily be bought at lowes or home depot too which is a plus since you don't need to hunt high and low to find them lol.

It should vaguely resemble  this.  (http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-11922)

Again, sorry to come on a little strong lol. Don't want you to get electrocuted or anything. :o

I appreciate the concern, however the light was only hung temporarily. It's now in storage.

Ahh i see. :) That Maxim lighting fixture is pretty cool too! I love hoe the lamps are reflected above where they actually are. Is that fixture design still made?
