they have good reviews and good price, ballast factor .85 and input power is 74W so calculated lamp wattage is about 35W each, this is the highest lamp power available these days

installed 10 sylvania design 50 lamps and 10 phllips Alto C50 F40T12's on normal .73A advance magnetic RS ballasts and none of them work when its humid or below 20F this is a huge problem as there is only light from the remaining F34T12 GE/CW lamps which is very dim and they take forever to warm up!

so we sat down and decided to bite the bullet and buy electronic RS ballasts, these have a 600 OCV and should start lamps down to 0F just like the GE pro- line electronic RS i installed which has 600 OCV and no EOL cut either

in the tests i did with converting the inner set of lamps to electronic T12 it always started no matter the temperature without flicker and warmed up the other 2 T12 lamps on the magnetic RS ballast which always started within 10 mins

so basically i am buying 10 of these Howard ballasts for the inner set of lamps to be converted

the reason i didnt convert to T8 was because i would have to buy 18 more lamps to do the inner set in all the 4 lamp troffers and that would cost more and be more complex using different lamps

Hmm. Why not use GE 40W T12 lamps? that's what i use and i actually like them best now. I avoid 34W lamps at all costs lol. for electronic ballasts it probably wouldn't be too bad...

i cant find them anywhere at retail and if ive tried phllips and sylvania with bad results i doubt GE would be any better, heck its cheaper to just replace the ballast for inner lamps in each fixture then to spend more money on new lamps again

i wont even be re-using any of the F34T12 lamps or installing new ones in his garage because they suck in the cold! adding the F34T12 lamps to my collection!

when im done there will be about 18 sylvania F40T12/ design 50 lamps and about 18 Phllips Alto F40T12 lamps with the electronic T12's in the inner pair of lamps, the 2 shoplights off to the side arent used in the winter so they will stay magnetic RS,

(i already had the lamps for a few months BTW)

Lowe's sells them. That's where i get mine lol. The GE lamps are actually pretty good. The SP35 lamps are their best. Keep the old ballasts though!

I have seen them there but only sometimes they have them, and only in expensive 2 packs,  i do like the SP 35 lamps a lot though! They also make an SPX 35 which is just a professional version with higher CRI

Im keeping all the old ballasts for me, a total of 9! And about 18 more F34T12 lamps mostly GE

Nice that you got some ballasts and lamps! I have no respect for those 34W ballast friers though. LOL

I have some 34 watters and will use them up on .73 amp or other suitable ballasts in warm environments or else use them as "testers" or experiment victims or laughing at their patheticness in the cold...
