Title: Old Luminaire Manufacturer Logos
Post by: Nevada Willis on April 24, 2011, 12:56:56 PM
I'm hoping some of you can help.

I'm working up a reference page on old luminaire logos.  Some of the older less common trademarks are more difficult to identify so I'm trying to get good images of those trademarks and I'm posting them to an information sheet.

http://www.kbrhorse.net/signals/street_light_id.html (http://www.kbrhorse.net/signals/street_light_id.html)

So I have two questions.

1.  Does anyone have good images of other logos that might confuse newer collectors?  I'm mainly into pre 60s stuff but I'm sure there must be newer vintage brand IDs that could be confusing and should be included in the list.

2.  Does anyone remember where the list is posted that discusses the colors on the tops of radial wave reflectors and which manufacturers used what colors?  I had finally tracked it down a couple of weeks ago, but didn't bookmark it and good old Windows downloaded a security patch and rebooted my computer while I was off somewhere else.  (My bad, I know.)

Anyway, any help would be appreciated!

Umm the information for the Westinghouse is not correct, but good effort my friend ;-) ...the earlier version did NOT have the balls on the tip of the W...instead the W was thicker....I have a fixture or two that had the older Westy, they changed over the old Westinghouse Logo in 1960....

For the General Electric...you may not have noticed...but the older version of General Electric logo and the today's are actually DIFFERENT!

The design of the GE logo was changed in 1989.....The ones before 1989 had more squirls on the E letter and the 4 little curves around the circle had more curls in the older one... ;-)

Jace,

Interesting stuff.  Yes, the GE logo changed somewhat and if I can get a clear copy of an earlier script I'll use it, but I think it's recognizable.  What had me really curious is the Westy logo.  Here's an image of a logo from an old series lamp socket blade.  It's the same for some of my other old series stuff, which tripped me up.

However you're right about the age.  As I understand it Paul Rand designed the thinner W with the fat dots and that would have been back in late 1959.  So either the components I have came out of series lights that were probably still being manufactured in the 60s, or they were later version replacements.  Of course the sockets could have easily been switched around or worn sockets simply replaced with newer ones.

Thanks for catching that.  I corrected the copy on the info sheet.

I have an OV-12 fixture (uses same refractor as the OV-10 clamshell) The OV-12 latch has the newer dotted Westinghouse design, but the refractor has the OLD thick not dotted W logo! I did have a picture and it was in my personal website before..but now my page is gone...I will upload that specific Picture I am talking about and you are WELCOME to use it in your website!

Funny thing, my OV-10 clamshell has the NEWER logo on the glass!
