Title: Canadian Light Bulb Ban Officially Delayed
Post by: joe_347V on December 14, 2011, 08:04:58 PM
Remember that proposal to delay the bulb ban in Canada? Well it looks like that it was approved (http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/node/17723) and that the bulb ban will now start in 2014 instead of in 2012. ;D

So instead of 100 & 75w bulbs being banned in January 2012 and 60 & 40w bulbs being banned in the end of 2012. They will be pushed back two years so that the ban dates are now January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014.

Quote
In December of 2008, as part of its effort to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the Government of Canada established new energy efficiency regulations to phase out the use of inefficient light bulbs. On April 16, 2011, an amendment was proposed to delay the implementation of the standard by two years. This delay was approved and published on November 9, 2011. As a result, the standard will affect 75- and 100-watt bulbs manufactured after January 1, 2014, and 40- and 60-watt bulbs manufactured after December 31, 2014.

Hmm. It seems the governments aren't technically "phasing out" the lamps, they're simply applyign stricter efficency standards for incandescents, which the manufacturers have decided to not follow them and drop the incandescents in favor of the more costly CFL and LED lamps. >:(
