I hav this string of 60 blue led that trips the GCFI protection switch yet works fine on a normal circuit

does all the lights light up? any weird behaviors in any of the LEDs? For this, it means the return power isn't same as the power that went into the line, so there is an imbalance between the neutral and the line.

Yes, this is only the second year they've been in use for Christmas

So I would expect some fault there, probably water leak.
So don't operate them, until you find the cause and fix it properly, even when they appear to work normally on non-GFCI circuit, the fault may cause either some nasty shock, or even a fire.
