Title: Some odd things I've found in the gallery
Post by: joe_347V on July 10, 2011, 04:09:33 PM
I recently found some odd things in the gallery section of this site, I've noticed that if you fill in the album password field on the "Update Album" page you album might get set to private or comments might get disabled.

Normally this isn't a problem since you can just avoid to password box when editing you albums but if you're using a browser that saves your GoL login and password and fills them in for you when you login such as Firefox the browser will automatically fill in the album password for you, which will make the album private or possibly disable commenting without you knowing.

One workaround I found to this issue is to blank out the album password box  on the bottom of the page before you press "Update Album" when you're editing your albums:

Note: If you do accidentally set your album private, you'll have to contact a admin to fix it for you, blanking the password field might not work in this case

Note 2: this is NOT a issue with GoL it's a COPPERMINE issue, I've had this problem on other sites that use Coppermine such as L-G

Another interesting thing I've noticed is that the email notifications for picture comments will change languages depending on what the commentor's default language is, I once got a notification email in French (http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif)

I pointed this out so people here can prevent accidentially setting their albums to private, it's not really a big issue though. I'm just kinda throwing this out there.

Cool, I actually had this problem when I first uploaded to LG and couldn't figure out why I didn't get comments, it wasn't until Devonte PM'd me and said my albums were private that I found out this glitch in the gallery.

And thanks for working on it Jace!

Hi Jace/All

It's wierd you guys are having problems with GOL, I don't seem to have anything happening, I upload Photos with No Problems, send, messages with No Problems, and read the Foruns with no Problems,

Yep it's puzzling

All the Best

Colin

Well it's actually a glitch that happens if you edit your album descriptions AND you use a browser that autofills your password so you might not have gotten this problem.

I've noticed another glitch connected to the "Update Album" page recently, it seems under certain conditions (perhaps it's the password field being filled again) when editing your album properties that commenting will become disabled.

The problem with this glitch is that there is no easy way for the user to fix this or even know that they disabled commenting unless they look at the pics themselves.

The only way I know of for the user to "fix" this is to create a new album, move all your pics on the disabled album and then delete the old album.

The easier way for now is to contact me and I will fix them....I have access....but I still am trying to figure out what causes those....but I can fix them when it happens....

I also encountered this problem in both LG and GoL, and because of this, i don't allow my Firefox to auto-complete passwords for these sites.

I think it's a inherent issue to all Coppermine galleries especially if they're the same version.

I wonder if there's some code that you could add to prevent the browser from auto completing since I know some sites don't let your browser save your login credentials.

Or in the case of GoL remove the password field on the edit album page completely since it's not even doing anything.

For this issue, I recommend staying online...(online forever)

my laptop is password protected, so no one else can log on to it, so i stay logged in all the time. Occasionally i find myself automatically logged out once in a while. >:(

Did you clear your cookies? I believe most boards like this keep track of you login status using a cookie.
