Title: Can you still use mercury vapor lighting?
Post by: lightingfan8902 on December 30, 2015, 03:13:30 PM
I was going to get a mercury vapor fixture on eBay, and I want to use it for area lighting. My question is that, can you still use mercury fixtures for services?  :MV:

Of course! They can't regulate use/installations. The regulation only affected the manufacture of the fixtures and ballasts. Existing stock can still be sold/bought and installed.

As long as it's your light and on your property, they can't tell you otherwise. The ban was places on the manufacture of the fixtures and ballasts because it would be unconstitutional for them to outlaw the use of the fixtures. They were supposed to ban the manufacture of the lamps effective January 1, 2016 but the ban has been lifted, so the manufacture of MV lamps will continue into 2016.
