Title: Incandescent Streetlights?
Post by: Form109 on April 20, 2014, 09:36:34 PM
ok so when I was little I was always into lights. when it came to streetlights back then I just knew them mainly by color. the orange ones,Blue Green ones,White ones.

now Im recalling that theyre were some Nema heads that emitted a Golden color different than the others and dimmer. later on I got a better look at em to find out they were incandescent.

now here's my big Question. Original Incandescent fixture or some lazy retrofit? cause some of these nema heads I remember had the round head so they were abit old.

Yep they made incandescent NEMA heads, especially if they had the round heads like you mentioned. Those are likely from the 60s. There are probably cases where the radial wave or admiral's hat optics got destroyed and NEMA bucket optics were installed but if you saw a good number of them, odds are that they're original incandescent NEMA buckets. Some places were late to start using low wattage 100 and 175W MV lamps. Here in RI a lot of the residential streets were lit with incandescents until the 90s when HPS took over. The only neighborhoods that were MV were urban neighborhoods and neighborhoods from the 70s and 80s. We had 400W mercs in the 40s though.
