Title: Optitron Instrument Cluster
Post by: Form109 on April 15, 2014, 09:11:41 PM
hey guys. this is something I think would be an intreasting topic to discuss. now again I wasn't quite sure where it would fit so I though it'd go here.

"optitron" is Toyota's trademark name for a electroluminescent gauges but I pretty much apply the term to any cluster fitting the description...anyway they first introduced in the 1990 Lexus LS 400. I believe the lighting was CCFL for the needles and gauge faces but im not completely sure. in the lower rung models like the ES,SC and GS the Needles were LED and the gauge faces were incandescent but the same effect was achieved.

now on these "optitron" clusters the entire gauge cluster appears invisible....or nearly invisible when the car is off, then they seem to appear out of no where when the car is on....they can also seem to float in an empty space. they've since spread all over the car market....and in Toyota they can be had on even something as low on the totem pole as a corolla. I want to hear your thoughts on this. would you have them in your car?
