Title: Photocell: Open Cap....

Anyone ever heard or seen an "Open Cap" ???

I have and Michael has one, all it is like a shorting cap but instead of keeping the light on all the time it keeps the light off all the time :)

Maybe if the light needs to be temporarily taken out of service (say someone doesn't pay the bill on a light lease light) then they would put in the open cap until they pay up.

Well, open caps are usually red. An open cap would be like what Niall said. And also, they are used to preserve the receptacle from weathering. All it is is an empty red photocell housing. I got mine because the power company shut off the light in front of my house because the city wanted to save money. After tons of complaints, the lights got turned back on and I got to keep the open cap. Nothing really special about it. It does the same thing that nothing would do exept the open cap tells the utility that the light is suposed to be off.

Maybe it was faded. The color it is suposed to be is red, that's the standard.

Red might be the standard but I have a NOS from 97 that is orange, same as Jace's just newer. I have 2 different style OC's one is a Ripley and is red and the other is the FP which is orange

Hmm, mine is Fisher Peirce too, but it is red. :-\ But it is also from i think '06.
