Found this GE OWL Light (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-GE-Wall-Mount-Ballast-Module-Owl-50W-High-Pressure-Sodium-Luminaire-Fixture-/281136894044?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item417510905c) on eBay. It looks like it's a multipurpose fixture that can be used either as a screw in ballast adapter or a wall mounted fixture.

definitely unique! a little pricey for me at the moment, but thanks for sharing

Looks like the listing ended with no buyers, I guess if someone here really wanted out they could always message the seller with a offer.
I would have bought since it was pretty unique (and plus a screw in HPS adapter is pretty cool) but the shipping costs more than the fixtute.

"Owl"=Overhead/Wall Lighter luminaire.
It was a neat "system" consisting of various parts to suit different applications. The one shown comes with the wall mounted socket but a ceiling socket was also available or screw the ballast into any 120 volt medium lamp holder.
There are 35 and 70 watt versions as well.
