Title: Recent Finds
Post by: lightdude789 on September 01, 2013, 10:41:56 PM
Sorry I haven't been here in a while, but I thought I'd share what I got since I was last here.

Some Lumax fluorescent fixtures that I got out of my neighbors garbage. The one on the left I parted out, since it wasn't in the greatest shape.

A MoBern Wall sconce. I'm pretty sure this was old stock from a lighting showroom, as the knockouts were still intact.

A few entry lights by Norwell. The left one I determined to be from the early '80s and the right one from 1985/1986.  The left did have socket covers, but I took them out temporarily, and accidentally stepped on them. -_-

Best for last, a Simkar mini shoplight. I have no idea how old it is, but it's an old fart for sure (rubber ballast wiring, unpolarized plug, etc).  If anyone can pin a date, that would be great! I apologize for the mismatched bulbs.

September 1971 for the shoplight. "JG" stamped on the GE ballast label is the date code, which makes this light 42 years old this month.

You got some nice finds over this summer. Welcome back! :)

i like that vintage look to the ballast. I've always liked those reflector strip light style shoplights simple and effective. I have a 4ft version from 1973 but with a smooth reflector. See  here.  (http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-11436)

It came with a full-power Universal F40T12 RS ballast from March 1973. I found it at the curb with someone's trash in my neighborhood so i took it home on my bike. I ended up breaking all the sockets but one so i bought four new sockets. I repainted it too and now it's installed in my utility room. Puts out good light!

Nice stuff! I have a similar F20 light:

It came with a nice HPF CGE ballast from 1968:

I like the NOS Mobern wall bracket too, if you look behind the ballast there should be a date code on it. Something like C82 where the letter is the month C = March and the number the year (1982).

Thanks for the help...the MoBern fixture's ballast is dated January, 1977.

I really like your F20.
