Title: Help on ID'ing Mercury vapor lamp
Post by: Mike on August 14, 2011, 09:17:44 AM
Ok, remember the lamp that came with my OV10? I THINK it's a Sylvainia lamp, but not positive. Jace told me to check on the base and after looking with a magnifing glass, i fount the number "8". On a little strip of metal i found this:
                           S  R
                           118

thank you

Congrats! IT is a Sylvania!!! After looking at a pic of your lamp for details like shape of the base insulator and all that. I got it summarized!

It is from October 1990! I was turning 7 that month! I remember it very well!!!

Thanks. The PC is two years older than the lamp. I had to use a magnifying glass to read the base the strip of metal could be read under good lighting. The lamp is 8 years older than me.  ;D

Often stuff gets installed 1 or 2 years after they were factory made, I see that all the time! ;-)

Yep, I've noticed that most lamps at the store are usually at least around a few months old, most are at least a year.

I should go to some of the local "mom & pop" hardware stores and see if they have old electrical stuff. :D

Sometimes the stores with fewer customers will have older stuff but the shopkeepers tend to watch you like a eagle once you step in.???

i've noticed that. kinda gets me mad when store owners watch me. It shows that they think I'm going to steal. I'm not that kind of person, so i don't like to be wathced like one. >:(

You can't buy spraypaint in Rhode Island if you are a minor. There's to reasons for this: 1. grafitte 2. teens inhailing the fumes. I sometimes wonder why some people my generation likes to sniff fumes. ???
