Occasionally I would like to post smiley from outside of your web-page.  I attempted to do so on the gallery comment box and came out as folder icon instead of intended smiley icon.  What I am doing wrong?
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Vince on January 01, 2010, 12:11:07 PM
If I'm right, you can only use icons installed with SMF (the software that runs the forum). The gallery part, which is run by Coppermine, also has its own smileys.

Smileys of the forum part  (http://galleryoflights.sanriovillage.com/mb/index.php?action=help;page=post#smileysref)

As of the gallery part, you have a set of smileys that you can use. I don't think that other smileys are installed on the server, but I should check.

Hope this helps.

I'll try (http://imcdb.org/res/smileys/D.gif)

Seems to work on the forum, not on the picture comments.

Comments?

Some other smileys are possibly installed on the server.  ;D

Have you noticed that Gallery's smileys are different? So the gallery uses different ones.

This site isn't like LG. I don't have everything merged as much as phil had LG. so there are alot of differences from the gallery and the Forum.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Jace the Gull on January 01, 2010, 11:27:04 PM
That is right....LG orignally did not have the forum actually. It was only the Gallery until July-August 2006 when it went through a big upgrade. But I gotta say Vince is doing a GREAT job! I am indeed impressed with him and Ian too!

Thank you Jace  :D But you know, you are doing awesome as well! Even better than me, I'm a beginner. You have been an admin for over 2 years before Gallery of Lights, so you have a lot more experience!

BTW I wonder, is it possible that too long URLs may not show up as links with BBCode?
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Jace the Gull on January 06, 2010, 10:31:45 AM
I am not too sure....but I was trying the code of link as following of
Code: [Select]
[url=http://link] Title [/url] it did not work in the gallery....

And I was the admin for over 3 years actually....starting late 2006
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: rjluna2 on January 06, 2010, 11:24:39 AM
That is exactly what I have done with smiley.  I used img directive on this forum which it does work, but not at the gallery.

you also are very welcome to use smileys you find online...as long they are shared and free to use....

It seems that my uploads do not show in the "last updated albums" section of the gallery but they do show up is the "last additions" section. Does anyone know how to make them appear in the "last updated albums" section?
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Jace the Gull on January 23, 2010, 03:37:36 AM
yeah I have been checking on to that...

This page actually had gotten many members faster than I expected, The other website did not gain members as fast in matter of fact!!! This is a great news! Keep the members coming, and more help could be done and more support. We will do our best to do well, and I am VERY VERY impressed with Ian and Vince's work! In fact I am so flipped out that they do better than I would!

Let's take the time to thank those guys!

Mr X!? This is a suspicious username in all types of gallerys & forums. I have never even seen an album of any pictures belong to one user that contain picture of another one. This is a transgression of the law! Its must be that this site is under attack! SOS!!!

Edit: Hey Mr X is not appears in the members list and is not a registered member! This album is invisible to the users on the users gallerys! sailormoon_01_uk: how you found this "virtual" album!? I think this is actually your album that have cracked, changed and became invisible!!! A hacker had took over your album!!!

My Photos are shown under Mr X see http://galleryoflights.sanriovillage.com/mb/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=5 it lookes like I have been Hacked.

The Same Lamps can be found on my Website under US/Japanese Lamps Page 1 see http://www.freewebs.com/lamps019/
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: dor123 on January 26, 2010, 09:04:46 AM
It seems that only you can see your album using the option "MY GALLERY" in the galery interface. Anothers can only see it by the link you posted here and not by the regular way, by the option "User galleries". In this option, in the list of the users that have an album of pictures, Mr X is not appears, means that your gallery is invisible to the users.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Jace the Gull on January 26, 2010, 01:59:09 PM
Mr. X is a default name for pictures that are not named....So something did go wrong but do not worry the "Mr. X" is name not a name from a hacker, it is actually part of the Coppermine. In my old pictures on Lighting-Gallery.net is Mr. X right now because my name was deleted on Lighting-gallery.net.

So therefore Mr. X is exactly like naming someone John Doe...which is because the pictures somehow was NOT assigned to a member, so it was named Mr. X because it did not know who the pictures belonged to

I am not sure what happened to the name, but I will have Ian take a look at the database and fix it.

Don't freak....all is fine....Mr. X is normal when pictures are not "registered to a member"

Okay guys I worked HOURS on something new....I accessed the database and worked hours trying to figure it out for a long time and did a LOT of modifications and stuff....Colin now it is UNDER your name...I had to delete your account and make a new one and change a lot of things....

Please let me know if it works. I tried my BEST to do as much as I could...I am pretty impressed on how to do the database myself!

The album is found

in the newest registered user section of the gallery, new users appears without appearing in the member list or in the newest registered user section of the forum. This make me think that these users are spammers. Please check why this is happen.

For some reason, unapproved members only appears in the gallery part, and not in the forum part.

Regarding to spam: I read that the majoity of the spam massages in forums in the world are caused by malicious BOTs (An automatic software that impostors to a living people) and not by live peoples. You can add CAPTCHA tests (a type of a Turing test) in the registering process to this site, to eliminate nearly 100% of the spams and the spammers. The www.lighting-gallery.net site can also do this. This is also the MAIN reason why most of the spammers in this site, as well as in www.lighting-gallery.net are dormant for a relatively long time before they are actually becomes active.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: SeanB~1 on March 17, 2010, 12:07:26 PM
A lot of spammers will register for sites, and only activate after a few weeks/months, as a lot of admins do not allow new users to post immediately, but relax after a few weeks. This is done automatically, either by a bot or by a hired monkey going to sites and trying to register many names, and keeping note of the successes for later.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Vince on March 17, 2010, 04:10:34 PM
I thought about that problem today, and maybe I could send emails to inactive account owners preventing that their accounts are going to be deleted and if there's no response, clean the memberlist.

That's just a suggestion  ;)
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Jace the Gull on March 17, 2010, 09:45:31 PM
Spammers actually has recently descreased because I have made the registering settings more strict, so there is no worries...
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: dor123 on March 20, 2010, 02:51:51 AM
The CAPTCHA test is a test that the users registering gets a random text with a distorted font and with a background and they need to write it on a text box. A live people can do this easily but an automatic software (a malicious bot) can't do this, because it's OCR feature can't detect such a type of a text as a text. This is a most important test for the registration process to eliminate nearly all the spams. Requiring the users to expose their personal details during the registration process in order to eliminate spam is a most dangerous thing that may endanger the pravicy of the registering users.

Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: SeanB~1 on March 20, 2010, 09:26:49 AM
Captcha is a nice thing, but you also need to consider the disabled, and those who have poor vision. The audible versions are nearly unhearable, and are no good to the deaf, who, if they are using a screen magnifier, find a captcha very difficult to decipher. Most spammers use a mechanical turk to get past the captcha requirements.

I noticed that when I logged in the forum, then I switched to gallery the menu just below the title box says login.

Then when I switched back to forum, the menu just below the title box says login.

I clicked the login word, I get the login request with the menu just below the title box says logout.  Then I can logout this web site  ???

So at the end, you were still connected right? This could be related to the cookies setting on your browser. Make sure the browser you're using (usually IE or Firefox) is set to keep cookies, otherwise it won't be able to keep you connected, or you'll get random logins-logouts.  :)

It's not really a "problem" it is not a bug, it is actually because that feature you speak of included in the other page you go to was custom made to do that, We haven't done that yet. It is currently at Coppermine default and requires code editing to do that. I will get to that when I have the time.

Thank you, I have known some of the issues, but thank you for the help, I have fixed some of the dots which were just set wrong. But there are some pictures that are missing, and I am trying to figure out where they may be, orginally all the thumbnails were missing and we did not open the gallery until I had figured out the thumbnails (which Ian asked me for help as he was stumped) I spent 6 hours finding the thumbnail files, which I am glad to say they were all found, but the sizes needs to be fixed on some of them, as they are set at Zero x Zero pixels......It takes time and patinece for me to work on it, and I don't get paid to work on this, but I am doing it with my HEART!

Please be patient, and I will be working on it.

Thanks,

OK let me re-frase that, I can not upload,
every thing is under 1 MB, when I upload it says one upload successful (it only give me the option of uploading one at a time not five like we use to) then when I click continue a blank screen loads, I have tried refreshing but nothing works, I simply can not upload any thing.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: dor123 on May 21, 2010, 02:11:05 AM
I agree with gailgrove. Only one picture and three URLs can be uploaded at one pass now.
I have in my gallery one picture of a characteristic LED traffic lights system in Israel that is lost. I don't want to recover it myself. This will cause a stress to recover the picture and the information if this will be done by reuploading. I often have very high stress when i need to recover information and uploading a high amount of pictures in steps to prevent from the former pictures to be wiped out in Lighting-Gallery as happened in the past to me.
Also, are you take care about the problem with the smilies?
Generally, why the host moving cause such a chaos in this site?

Admins, there're still several albums that includes broken pictures (including my traffic lights album where one picture is broken). Please take care about this.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Jace the Gull on May 23, 2010, 05:11:25 AM
The missing pictures are gonna take a while, because they are nowhere to be found....I am not sure how it happened, but the thumbnails was originally missing too, but I had spent 5 hours finding them and had found them. For now I think we should move on posting pictures, and hopefully some members will be willfully to post new pictures and replace some flawed ones as we have really worked hard.

Also about some uploading problems, I am still working on it. Patience, as I am not as experienced as some people are in other webpages but I have the knowledge, the skill and logics to understand and learn this myself though. Which has been so far successful.

I was not the one to move the whole page to new host though, so I am still gonna try to work through this. But I can be also busy.

Please remember I do not get paid to help and fix and stuff, I do this for all of my goodness in my heart and because it is also fun for me to do and I love to help other people.

Thank you everyone for the understanding...

I think that the number of the broken pictures increased. Several of the title pictures in the public albums were went broken.
At least my single broken picture in my album was corrected successfully.
Also, in the uploading, the pictures uploading was corrected, but not the URLs one.
Also Jace, i see you failed to insert URLs into comments on pictures. This function should be works like in LG site, by inserting the URL address without any use of BBC tags.

It shouldn't need to show only the last created albums, but also the last updated albums, like in the L-G site.

That will need to be specially coded....so it may be a while before we make that......and I do not want this page to be too similar to L-G anyway...

I agree with Jace on that point. Complaining about every problem encountered on Gallery of Lights won't make things go faster. We do see them as well.

It is easy to ask and ask like "Add this" and "Remove that" and so on. But modifying this forum involves modifications in the code of the page which is a very complex task. For example the forum runs with Simple Machines, which is basically a bunch of PHP pages connected together (its' a LOT more complex but I summarize here). So, to add something, not only you have to modify the original page (often in XHTML), but you also have to modify up to several PHP pages.

For example, a PHP page is intended to add forum posts (if I'm right). If we'd want to enable YouTube player embedding (say it isn't possible), we have to modify EVERY involved page in the process of adding a forum post to make sure they ask to add the player.

So, what I want to say, is that asking is easy, but doing so is a lot harder. We're not experts. I myself admire Jace for is HARD work on the page. Just try not to add things to do on this site, because there's already a lot. We do not want to ban people, and I would HATE to have to go further than how far it went on LG, so please stop. Less complaints, more fun! ;)

Best regards,

Vince.

There is a problems of compatibility of the site both in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
In Firefox, the buttons and the smilies in the forum seems to not work (Firefox i think refers them to background). In Internet Explorer on the other hand, several things don't displayed correctly, like PM links and avatars of the members in comments (They looks like they can't be loaded or displayed)(Internet Explorer 8 with compatibility mode).
Admins, please check this.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Vince on June 24, 2010, 11:06:53 PM
I currently use Firefox and everything is fine. Double check you updated Firefox to the 3.6.4 version which came out today by the way. As far as Internet Explorer is concerned, such errors aren't supposed to happen. I recommend using Firefox instead. These problems most likely don't come from the site. It's up to you to check if everything is fine on your computer.  :)

Vince.

*Last thing: If you experience uploading problems, don't bother to tell us, we (well, Ian mostly LOL) are already working on that.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: dor123 on June 24, 2010, 11:22:09 PM
The buttons and the smilies in the forum still don't work with the newer version of Firefox.
When i click on a smile or a button in the forum on Firefox, the cursor disappears from the message box and nothing happens.
Apparently, Firefox don't see these buttons as gif images with a HyperText Transfer Protocol, but just a regular gif image.

That also happened to me too once too when I was typing too much text in the description box. It also happened to me once on an other lighting site before so I guess the problem is with coppermine.

I wonder if a lot of coding is needed to increase the description length....

What with the URLs problem on the picture comments (URL adress turns into (...))?
Also when i post a comment on a picture in the site using IE8 without compatibility mode on, when i reachs the third line its jumps to the first line hidding the line i write in.
Please confirm that this site will work perfect on IE8 without the necessary of the compatibility mode on, and on Firefox.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Vince on July 19, 2010, 06:15:40 PM
First off, you should try to enable the compatibility mode. Internet Explorer has always had issues interpreting web code (HTML, PHP, etc.), especially special or rarely used codes. That's why I now mainly use Firefox.

I can assure you everything is 100% fine with Firefox, as I am an unconditional user of Firefox ;)

For HTML.... simply typing the URL is not allowed in Gallery of Lights except for the forum..which is OK...

Also use the  title  (http://link) coding...and be sure theres no errors or typos or extra spaces in them to prevent the (...)

So this is not a bug...

Ticoune66: Regarding the smilies and the BBC tags i discovered the reason for the problem with them in my Firefox. They aren't related to the main www.galleryoflights.org host, but to the www.disasterous.org host, which was blocked by the Noscript expansion as it thought by me to be a third party site, so i solved the problem.

Nope not a bug, I removed the option to disable the raiting and the commenting, and the options for who can view albums...If you don't want rating or comments, then instead of posting on GoL, you should be making your own website. This website isn't like a "imageshack" where you store pictures for your own self. This page is a free page to use, free to upload, a page for showcasing pictures to others. So it is fair for those restrictions.

Jace, i want to share the pictures and videos with the members and therefore to recive comments, but i don't want that my pictures and videos will be rated.
The comments is necessary as the part of the sharing, as without comments, the sharing will be useless, but the rating is less important then the comments.
Even in Youtube, there are almost all of the options about keeping priavcy, including visibility of the videos and comments disabling.
There is no rating system in Youtube, currently. But even if they would returned the rating, they would also add an option to disable it, in the video preferences.
As you can see, because of the removing of the rating option, i much less active in this site, and almost don't upload pictures.

I want everyone to be aware that there is a BUG on the commenting issues...

When a new album is created or an album is edited, it causes the comment functions to turn off itself on that specific album. Please if you find such problem, like missing comment text box, CONTACT Jace (gullwhiz)

Thank you
