They do replace power doors but these fixtures were too far gone. Pretty nasty and scary. Did the lamps explode?
GullWhiz   [Jan 30, 2010 at 03:49 AM]
Yeah they also replace older fixture powerdoors too, which are the older GE M-400A2s.....it is the company that services my area....same one! There is one GE M-400A2 near me that had a burnt out ballast, it got a new powerdoor.....the old one had vents, the new door didnt.

Hey is this a 4 foot upsweep or a 10 foot truss arm on this pic?

MMMMM, nice and crispy!!
BTW,What is a 3kv primary local feeder?

Wow! That light looks like it's seen better days. My power company just replaces the whole fixture when the ballast is toast.

a Primary Feeder is a Main Line Right?...like one that connects a Substation to sevral branch circuits...3 KV is the Voltage...must be old since higher voltages are used now.
GullWhiz   [Jan 31, 2010 at 03:12 AM]
he said 13 kV not 3 kv and yeah its the ones on top of the wooden poles....the very top with bare uninsulated wires!
Silverliner14B   [Jan 31, 2010 at 05:25 AM]
The ballasts must have glowed red hot! That's what excessive voltage will do!
GullWhiz   [Jan 31, 2010 at 05:36 AM]
oh yes that's for sure....I wonder if you would have seen glow coming out of the powerdoors when driving by while it was being ignited with high voltage!
Form109   [Jan 31, 2010 at 05:55 AM]
opps...i meant to say 13 KV....and by Main i dont mean the High Voltage Primary Lines....by Main i mean a Major Line as in "if this line is damaged alot of people would be without Power"...also...i dont think the Ballasts would Glow...they Probably just would have Burnt Rather quickly then as the coils became an open circuit they would spark...but i dont see it glowing unless it was arcing at some points.
GullWhiz   [Jan 31, 2010 at 07:17 AM]
Oh actually the ballast will GLOW!!! I had a 175 watt MV that burnt out on me and part of the coils were GLOWING bud! They will GLOW!

5 fixtures, including the twin wire was replaced on this circuit.

I saw a GE M-250R1 recently that's in the same condition also, there was a vehicle accident which knocked a light pole over causing a relay to catch on fire and ruin other lights too. Confused
