Cooper OVXs
Here's a shot of a bunch of OVXs with pretty tall poles that seems to be the norm in Peel Region. I recall these were 400w HPS but I'm not sure about that.

Yep 400 watt HPS, I know exactly where that is in fact I have two pictures taken VERY close to there
this one (taken off to the right of this intersection, and this one which is the first OVX on a concrete pole after the intersection. These are 50 ft poles and can be seen with 8 and 10 ft tapperd E arms, I have also seen them with 125s.

Attack of the OVX!!!! Shocked Razz Laughing

Someone here called it being OVX'd. Laughing
LilCinnamon   [Nov 04, 2011 at 05:26 AM]
OVX's are sure popular. xD But in my area... Not very. xD
mercuryvaporrocks   [Nov 04, 2011 at 02:50 PM]
The OVX's have been around my area since the 90's.
gailgrove   [Nov 04, 2011 at 02:56 PM]
I was the one that came up with being OVXed. Laughing Which is exactly what has happened here. Rolling Eyes

Thankfully, I don't know of a single OVX installed here. We use the M-400 for 400w lamps.
joe_347V   [Nov 05, 2011 at 01:36 AM]
I think my area might have switched to the 125 for 400w lamps instead of the OVX.
streetlight98   [Nov 05, 2011 at 02:10 AM]
that sounds good Smile
LilCinnamon   [Dec 24, 2011 at 03:41 PM]
Are most of the OVX's in your area new design? Or are some old design? I notice to see most are new design since they were mostly installed after the OVX changed.
gailgrove   [Dec 24, 2011 at 04:01 PM]
I guess most are, there was a large amount of road widening done in the last few years and almost all of those projects had 400 watt HPS OVXs installed, Powerlites where used up until 2002 or so.
joe_347V   [Dec 24, 2011 at 10:38 PM]
I think these OVXs were installed in 2005-2006 when Bovaird was widened from 2 lanes to 6 lanes.

My area first started using OVXs in mid 2007 but they seemed to have backed down from that and use OVFs or 125s instead. The last Powerlites (R47s) were probably installed around 2002 or so and OV 25s were probably used until 2006 or so.

The OVFs aren't much better when it comes to cycling. Rolling Eyes The reflector can't even hold a full size ED/BT37 lamp for the OVF! The OVD can since the refractor makes the opticals bigger and not sure of the OVY.
LilCinnamon   [Dec 25, 2011 at 01:44 PM]
The OVF can hold a BT-27 or ED-37 lamp pretty easily. It depends on the socket adjustment.

And with the more room in the OVD/OVY/OVF.. The cycling takes longer than like an OVX. But still does it prematurely since the reflector material.

Cooper should use a different reflector material and maybe this cycling will stop.
gailgrove   [Dec 25, 2011 at 01:47 PM]
Different material? As far as I know reflectors have been aluminum since the 1950s.
streetlight98   [Dec 25, 2011 at 04:34 PM]
I'm guessing he means the material (substance) that is now used to finish the reflectors. I agree with him if that's what he means. There's a possiblility whatever they use to make the reflectors shiney is too strong?
joe_347V   [Dec 25, 2011 at 09:24 PM]
Yeah aluminum reflectors are go through a final finishing step after forming, for example the reflectors in my traffic light are treated using the Alzak process which is what SOME Cooper lume use too.
streetlight98   [Dec 26, 2011 at 03:19 PM]
I've noticed cycling problems with newer fixtures. The M-400 split door around here don't have significant cycling issues, but those nasty current M-400 FCO have horrible light distribution and cycling issues. I find the OVF to be better looking and it has better light distribution. It's still bad at cyclign and the ballasts and ignitors aren't as good as GE...
LilCinnamon   [Dec 26, 2011 at 03:32 PM]
I don't think it's the newer FIXTURES that have more cycling issues, it's more the lamps, the lamps are cheaper made and made in other countries.

Ballasts aren't made in the US anymore because Ballasts and Transformers take a LOT of manual labor, and there isn't much of manual Labor in the US so they have other countries where Manual labor is more prominent, like China or some other countries, to build them.
streetlight98   [Dec 26, 2011 at 03:42 PM]
That's true too, but there's been fixtures here recently relamped and they still don't have bad cyclign issues. I think it's a combo of reflectors, and lamps.
