Westinghouse Blacklighter OV-25 with a 400w mercury vapor black light lamp. Not as impressive as I thought it would be but I always wanted to try this. The refractor causes too much scatter and the overall output doesn't even appear to be as good as a 2x40w fluorescent striplight with BLB tubes. Plus it gets extremely hot. But I still think it would look cool to use these on a totally dark street, making just the lines on the pavement glow. Keywords: Lit_Lighting

Nice! Too bad about the non-effectiveness. I think the problem is the refractor. The glass is absorbing most of the light. Did you try it with no refractor?

Yeah, you can see the refractor glowing quite a bit.A Wood's glass refractor would be a lot better but would look pretty strange lol and I doubt such a thing was ever made.

That looks awesome. Too bad it doesn't work all that well brightness-wize..
Still would be cool to setup if you ever did a party or something.

eBay, I believe.They are not cheap.

Have you tried this without the refractor in place? The glass is probably absorbing the UV, which would explain why it doesn't seem as effective.

Yeah that's my guess too. I also wonder if a FCO glass would be better.

I've seen trucks with BLB bar lights on them. My friend actually just bought one. He hasn't gotten around to installing it though.

He ordered it for a haunted house he's making but he's going to try it on his truck just to see what it's like. If he likes it he'll put it back on the truck permanently after the haunted house.
