No, the parabolic reflector was used to minimize glare on those older tube computer screens. These aren't commonly used anymore as tube screens for computers are obselete.
Yep. Stores use them for the same reason: lower glare. JC Penny's, CVS, and Target use them too. Walmart uses lowbay fluorescents here which do an OK job of lighting the store....
Most Walmarts here use two lamp industrials in rows for lighting, but I've seen them use troffers if the store has a drop ceiling, or even fluorescent highbays.
One of the lamps that were in here was sylvania, the other two weren't. (The sylvania one is the more yellow 3500k Color tempurature, easy to tell in this pic. xD)
But now I have three GE lamps of 4100k Cool white in this fixture now that I got at Lowes.
ALso, Target doesn't exactly use Parabolic Troffers in their NEW stores, They use some other kind that are different, but look similar. The grid thingy on the TARGET ones aren't a reflector, they are just white and for decoration mostly. The older target stores used the parabolic troffers, byt instead of having a 3-by-6 grid, they had a 2-by-six grid.
Lots of stores still use these, though. I do know Kohls I know uses them, since I always get my clothes there. xD
Ian :What brand lamps are they? I'm guessing sylvania
