The Crisp glow of MV has been Silenced...
well i knew it had to happen eventually, for a long while MV presisted on residental streets long after HPS took over on Arterial roads, all good things come to an end unfortunately.

the right picture is before...left after...as you can see HPS is now casting its death colored cast in front of my house, the streetlights on the intersecting road in the background have also been changed.

the street looks so dark now.

Reminds me of my town how suddenly it changed around the end of 2008. Sad

Not mentioned to the orange sky as the floating nuclear waste Rolling Eyes

Hey, better HPS than LED! And I don't think these pictures are quite fair... What is the new fixture/wattage?
Antstar85   [Feb 16, 2012 at 04:17 PM]
Well I'd rather MV to HPS, not HPS to LED which happened in front of my house.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Feb 16, 2012 at 04:33 PM]
Also better than MV to LED.
joe_347V   [Feb 16, 2012 at 04:53 PM]
Well, at least it's still HID and not a George Foreman grill. Razz
GullWhiz   [Feb 16, 2012 at 06:49 PM]
That is almost accurate actually...HPS DO make things look darker..........

One of the things I'm against HPS is the fact it's harder to see when pavement is very wet.....it's easier to see wet pavement under white source of light or at least a better CRI.....

Good thing about HPS is they actually make it easier to see in extremely foggy days. Plus studies shows kids who live in a white source lit neighborhood kids are more likely to have to wear glasses than in HPS neighborhood.....I sorta do see it being true cuz my neighborhood is HPS neoghborhood with 40 houses and I can't think of any kid in the neighborhood having glasses!!!!!
gailgrove   [Feb 16, 2012 at 07:03 PM]
Jace do you have any links to that study? I would be quite interested in seeing it...
streetlight98   [Feb 16, 2012 at 08:32 PM]
@ Jace; that's interesting stuff. It may also be that the kids in your area wear contacts instead of glasses. About 7 out of every 10 kids in my classes that wear glasses have contacts instead.

My eye doctor told me from what he's seen in 30+ years or experience is that most people that have glasses are blue-eyed over brown-eyed. Also most of his patients who have migraines have blue eyes too. Maybe it's true since I have blue eyes and I need glasses for distance and I get migraines.

the fixture is 100 Watts..and the replacement fixture is also an AEL 115 which is what the Previous light was...so during the day it looks as if nothing has been changed.

the picture is pretty fair, looks as i saw it..the only variable here is the fact that the picture on the left was taken on a slightly foggy night.

the new fixture lights diffrently than the old one which threw quite a bit of light into our yard, and the neighbor's yard directly behind the pole...the pattern is now a small bright spot right under the fixture with a darker level of illumination surrounding it.
i suppose HPS is better than LED since it's HID but i do not like the color lol...the MV made the grass have an alive look...now at night it looks dead.

i haven't had a Migrane in years...they're terrible. Smile
streetlight98   [Feb 17, 2012 at 01:50 AM]
They indeed are! Mad Sometimes my migranes get so bad that I feel like someone struck my on the head with a pole and I end up have to close my shade and lay down in complete darkness with an ice pack on my head until it passes. Sad
Form109   [Feb 17, 2012 at 03:27 AM]
for me migranes include the traditional sharp, throbbing headache with weird optical visions (i guess you could call them that) the white flashes you see...sometimes i can sleep it off but most of the time it ends with me vomiting (gross i know) and then it goes away right after.
streetlight98   [Feb 17, 2012 at 07:15 PM]
I've never experienced any weired visions or vomiting but my mom says she sees these little white lights and then she blacks out and forgets what she was doing and even where she is for a few moments! Shocked Definetly not good if it were to happen on the freeway.
