After seeing some of [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-5889] Vince's [/url] [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-5884] awesome [/url] pics. I tried making my own but I didn't have much sun recently so I used a halogen PAR to try and see if I could get the same effect. Anyways, here's a pic of some random electrical stuff I had lying around.

Do you know the CD number of that glass insulator? Looks like something in the CD 1xx, probably the CD 106.
GullWhiz   [Apr 25, 2011 at 03:34 AM]
I have one just like this insulator mine says Hemincray - 9 on it ....it looks like this one has a 9 too....
joe_347V   [Apr 25, 2011 at 03:36 AM]
Yeah mine says Hemingray 9 on it too.
EDIT: looked up the CD number and it is indeed CD 106
TiCoune66   [Apr 25, 2011 at 03:43 AM]
Indeed, model 9 -> CD 106! Cool

Ever seen a Hemingray 42? They were pretty common last I was into buying insulators a couple years ago. They were usually aqua-green or clear
I love insulators, feel free to PM me and talk about them you guys!
joe_347V   [Apr 04, 2012 at 02:36 AM]
I think I might have but I'm not that familiar with insulators. Razz
TiCoune66   [Apr 04, 2012 at 02:37 AM]
The Hemingray 42 is the CD 154, common as dirt on many old telephone lines.

There was a time I spent quite some time climbing old telephone poles along railroads to get insulators. All those lines in my area are completely depleted of any wire. Now I don't have much time for that, though I still like those glass insulators and those I got are still in my basement!
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 04, 2012 at 03:24 AM]
Yeah I love collecting these, in fact recently I scored two more clear ones!
Did you guys know that the purple ones were actually clear originally, then decades of sunlight caused the lead-containing glass to turn purple?
Oh and recently I was in antique "Emporium" (which was lit by tons of 2XF96T12 fixtures) and they had WAY overpriced common insulators, I saw one for $16USD! (Or maybe I'm used to finding them for cheap at thrift shops).
streetlight98   [Mar 16, 2014 at 10:56 PM]
My grandparent's are down in Florida and bought me some insulators. One is a green Hemingray 42. Not sure about the others, there's some white and some brown. only the green one is glass, the others are ceramic.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Mar 19, 2014 at 01:22 AM]
Yeah they're blue-green.
My late mother had some huge ceramic ones but I let those go...they would have been ridiculous to ship and might not have survived the out-of-state move anyway...I DID however save all the glass ones we had collected...they will be mailed to me at some point...
BTW a hilarious story...So I was on google images today to show someone what the unique town hall building in that town looked like and pics of THAT house came up (obviously on real estate sites). I was like, "How ironic!" Laughing
