indeed a super rare lamp!.....isn't the arctube on this one made of single crystal saphire?

I think it's the same material used in standard HPS lamps, it is just heated at a higher temperature during manufacture.

That's right the arc tube is made of sapphire! Ceramic heated high enough to melt into a single solid substance. Nice find Geoff! I have one you know but it doesn't say "property of ny city".

For more information, click here. @Joe347v Westinghouse was the only American manufacturer who made them as far as I know, the other ones were made by Osram-GEC and Thorn in the UK.

@geoff i imagine they have to heat it to ceramic's melting point which has to be thousands of degrees,ceramic is some tough stuff.
