These old mercs were used in 1940s? sunlamps. A pic of the Westy lit was posted earlier. They have weird bases which are a bit larger than the standard edison base shown in the pic.
They're admedium bases. E-29 so yeah they're a bit bigger than the medium bases we're used to. I think I have one like that somewhere. (Not the same bulbs but PAR-38 MV 100w.)
They have odd base to prevent consumer to mis-screw with other fixtures.
Did you have to use the regular 100 Watts Mercury Vapor ballast or did you use the one that came with the fixture?

I just used a regular merc ballast, I don't have the fixture.
