Solar Gutter Lights
I installed a row of 5 solar gutter lights on the side of our house where the garbage containers are to provide some light when we have to take out any trash at night. These work pretty well for what they cost. Each light has 3 of those jumbo size white LED's and is powered by one AA rechargeable battery. I also installed 4 of these near the screen door at the back of the house to provide some light for when we take our dog outside at night. On the other side of the house, I installed two black solar gutter lights that for the most part look identical to these, however are powered by two AA rechargeable batteries.

Hmm interesting. How much do these cost a piece? And can you get them in stores like Lowes? Do these last all night or do they die a few hours into the night? How bright are they? (are they rated for a lumen level? Or about what wattage incandescent are they equal to?)

How securely do these mount to the gutter? I feel like in your area you probably get a lot of wind during hurricane season. We do too. It's very windy today, but very comfortable at 70 degrees. We've had temperatures in the mid-upper 80s all summer so it a refreshing change.

Anyway, the reason for all the questions is because I'd love to go buy a bunch of these and install them on my house. Very Happy Also, how far apart did you space these, how high off the ground are they, and how long have they been in service? I don't think I could reach the gutters on my house. The most we have is an 8ft ladder and my house is a raised ranch, so the gutters are a story-and-a-half up.

I purchased these on eBay. I just found a listing for these from the same seller I purchased them from. They're priced $20.99 for a set of 5, or $38.99 for a set of 10. I haven't seen or looked for them in stores. They've only been in service for a month or two. But so far they are working great. They stay bright all night and when I leave for work in the mornings, I have watched them turn off as the sun rises. However on cloudy days they do not stay on all night.
I couldn't find a lumen rating for them. The LED's are directional, so they cast a circular pattern on the ground.
I could try getting a picture of them tonight to show you how bright they are. If the picture quality is good I'll post it on here tonight.

OK sounds good! I'm guessing by the looks of it, your gutters are only around ~10ft off the ground? Mine are at least 20 so I'd probably have to jump up on the roof from the deck in the backyard and then install them that way.

They're about 8 feet off the ground. These gutters were recently installed. If you remember that picture in my gallery where I had a twistlock photocontrol receptacle mounted to the fascia, for the landscape lights, these gutters did not exist.
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2016 at 09:30 PM]
Wow just 8ft? You got a short house lol. Hmm never seen a house without gutters before!
HPSM250R2   [Sep 05, 2016 at 10:10 PM]
Not really. That's pretty standard. At least here it is anyways.

We used to have a gutter on the front of the house only. After years of ruined mulch and flower beds from rainwater falling off the roof we finally had gutters installed on the whole house. Except over the garage where the roof is at an incline. I think that's called a pitch?
streetlight98   [Sep 06, 2016 at 12:38 AM]
The gutters would only be used on the eaves of the roof (the lowest points). As for the garage, you're probably referring to a rake. The pitch of the roof would be the steepness of the angle the roof is at (aka the slope).

HPSM250R2   [Sep 06, 2016 at 12:43 AM]
Yeah they're installed on the fascia. There isn't one over the garage because the water doesn't run off over the garage, because the roof comes to a point at the middle. I would post a pic to explain better but it wouldn't be lighting related. Well, then again, I uploaded sprinkler pics a few times before.
streetlight98   [Sep 06, 2016 at 01:08 AM]
Not exactly. The fascia is the entire perimeter of the roof. The gutters are only installed on eave ends. It would be pointless to install gutters on the rake ends because the rake end is the peak you speak of (which is illustrated where the windows are to the left). Just link a streetview of the roof in the comments section here. Or you could email me the streetview if you're afraid of other people looking at it.

I saw your diagram after I posted my comment lol. But yeah that's what I'm talking about, above that window on the left. Could you look up my house streetview using my address?
streetlight98   [Sep 06, 2016 at 02:12 AM]
Yep. with your address I can look up the streetview.
HPSM250R2   [Sep 06, 2016 at 02:15 AM]
Ok. Do you have my address? Laughing
streetlight98   [Sep 06, 2016 at 02:26 AM]
I guess I will when the box arrives. Laughing
HPSM250R2   [Sep 06, 2016 at 02:40 AM]
Oh ok. So you don't save addresses either. So I don't have to be embarrassed every time I ask for yours lol.

Those look kinda cool. Might have to go on eBay & check them out.

Just wondering a couple things:
How securely do they mount to the gutter? (we can get some pretty good winds here, and hailstorms too...if one were to get knocked loose there's no way it'd ever survive the fall Laughing)
How easy is it to both install and remove them (i really need to be able to easily remove them for the xmas season)
Is the clip plastic or metal?
HPSM250R2   [Sep 08, 2016 at 12:34 AM]
These are pretty decent. The piece that mounts to the gutter is metal, painted white, and they're better than the black ones I ordered. The gutter mounting piece on the black ones are made from a much thinner metal. The gutter mounting pieces just slide between two channels in the plastic light and a very small screw holds it in place.
They're easy to install. The mounting piece just hooks over the top of the gutter and a thumb screw holds it in place. I'll try posting a few closeup pics of the light and mounting piece in the next few days.
xmaslightguy   [Sep 08, 2016 at 01:04 AM]
Look forward to seeing those pic's Smile
Glad to hear the mounting piece is metal. Guess I'll stick to the white version if I get some...
HPSM250R2   [Sep 08, 2016 at 01:18 AM]
There are several different sellers selling these type of lights. So they could be different if you ordered the black ones. Same goes for the white ones. I guess you won't know for sure what yours will be like until you get them. Unless you purchase them from the same seller I purchased mine from, then they might be the same.
xmaslightguy   [Sep 08, 2016 at 01:46 AM]
Yep I am looking on there now... there's certainly plenty of sellers. Laughing
I see some even have a choice of warm or cool white.
