GE 72w energy efficient soft white
Well the non-chinese GE halogen soft whites have now appeared here. However all the bulbs I looked at in the store have a pretty thin coating, similar to the GE standard/basic bulbs.

Thin coating, will that actually help more light out but still nicely diffuse?

The light is a little stark but still ok I guess. Whats weird is that the capsule creates a bright hot spot at the tip, so the top of the bulb has a bright spot!

Nice coating, GE. On the other hand....I have had a few 1980's "soft whites" that were also very thinly coated (though that was more of a Sylvania problem back in the day) and I have an 80's mercury lamp also with a thin coating. GE's also not too good with the phosphor coating on their T12 fluorescents from the 90's on up.
