I may have struck paydirt! There's a surplus warehouse in Syracuse that may have the glassware I am looking for. When I spoke to the guy, he told me he'll sell them to me for up to $20 a pop. Oh, and I won't be having them shipped, If this turns out good, I am going to schedule a vacation day next Friday and drive up to Syracuse to pick them up myself.

Nice that you can get the refractor for less than you originally thought! Also, I think it's safe to say this arm passes the weight test. Laughing How heavy is this light? Also, nice collection of photocells!

1000 watt HPS typically weighs in at a hefty 80 lbs.
streetlight98   [Jan 08, 2013 at 10:38 PM]
Wow! Shocked How much would you guess the fixture to weigh without the ballast and cap (just housings, refractor, and reflector)?
NiMo   [Jan 08, 2013 at 11:24 PM]
Take about 40 lbs off for the ballast.
streetlight98   [Jan 08, 2013 at 11:25 PM]
40 pounds with no ballast is still pretty heavy! My M-400 split door weighs that much with it's H33 120X240V ballast. Shocked

Anyhoo, here's the website for T&D Surplus Sales: http://www.tdsurplus.com/StreetLights/Luminair.htm

Hmm. I regonize stuff there from the NGrid Surplus Website. Some of the stuff that vanished off the NGrid site is on that website...
NiMo   [Jan 08, 2013 at 11:55 PM]
I wonder if T&D had been buying the stuff at auction?
streetlight98   [Jan 09, 2013 at 12:11 AM]
It makes sense... Most of the good stuff they seemed to have bought from NGrid...

The older 1000 watt 1960's GE Mercury floods are very heavy too. I had to take a few of those of poles and trust me, it wasn't easy. Laughing

BOOM!!!
I'll be making the drive to Syracuse, New York to pick up two M-1000 refractors from National Grid in Liverpool.

Good Luck! Very Happy Maybe you can score some other lighting-related stuff too?

There's a lot of mercury vapor General Electric M-1000's in West Penn Power's area.

40lb out 2ft = 40*2=80lb so 80*2= 160lb at the start of the arm.
NiMo   [Jan 22, 2013 at 01:05 AM]
Oh I made sure it was well built.
traffic light1   [Jan 22, 2013 at 01:22 AM]
Yes, looks good.
