It seems that every North America made street and exterior lighting fixture have a photocell sockets to allow every street light lamps to lit independently. Many street lights made in Europe doesn't contain PC sockets and like in Israel all of the street lights in the neighborhoods, roads, settlements turn on/off at the same time by a timer switch or a photocell so there is no chance of stand alone dayburners.

Not all exterior lighting have photocell sockets mostly streetlights does, but outdoors lighting like parking lot lights and and other lighting have one photocell for all....but streetlights...it depends on the area, or on electric company or setups....in my state of Maryland.....the highways, the State owned lighting usually are controlled by one photocell for each group (like a row of 30 or 60 or so) but Traffic light lighting usually are independent. most newer wood pole lights in my area are independent

In Israel, lighted traffic signs on an near traffic lights (The traffic light lighting that you means) also lit independent from the street lighting group. Its turn on/off i think usually by a time switch, a photocell or by the program of the traffic lights system if it is computerized. Also in Israel most of the street lighting in cities turn on/off by a time switch and not by a photocell because photocell is more expensive then time switch. photocell used mainly in local exterior lighting and small settlement or kibbutzs like Givat Hayim.

in my area most lights are Individual PC Controlled....the new lights on metal poles circling the loop route around the city however seem Group Controlled as they all switch on at the same time...sometimes individual PC's switch on almost excactly at the same time, also shutting off almost at the same time,i assume this is because those PC's have Very Similar Sensitivities.

Similar here in Canada, most streetlights on wooden power poles are individually controlled by a photocell while lights mounted on metal poles are group controlled.Parking lot and exterior building lighting are controlled by one Photocell or timer for all.

Yeah, most streetlights on wooden and concrete poles here are also individually switched except for some in Toronto and the ones installed on provincial highways which are switched by a pole mounted relay in the Toronto case, or by a large relay cabinet near the offramps. Most streetlights on metal poles here are on group relays.

Darren you say this is a Canadian made version?....is Landmark a seperate company with Permission to make Duplicates of AE's Fixtures..or does AE make the Fixtures and landmark rebrands them?
lite_lover   [Aug 11, 2010 at 05:46 PM]
Yes, it's a Canadian made version..Landmark doesn't exist anymore,it was part of a group of companies.I don't know the details...if they bought older AE molds or just bought AE housings as the ballasts are Canadian made.Landmark produced cobras, posttops, buckets and wall packs from the late 80's to late 90's.
