"Lamp Life: Variable LOL" Laughing *Depends on what ballast!

Seems to cycle with the reactor ballast in the Caster 175W yard blaster.

I've seen a couple 100W MV lamps here installed within the past few years (i think all GEs, before NGrid went to Sylvania) that cycle. It's the weirdest thing. Why do they do that? Shocked Neutral

I'm not sure,I figured since this lamp works fine on other ballasts that the cheapy ballast in the blaster wasn't putting out enough voltage.

Have you tried any other lamps (especially used ones) to see if they cycle?
lite_lover   [Sep 08, 2014 at 03:25 AM]
I tried another used lamp and it seems to work fine,I guess the Caster lamp doesn't get along with the Caster fixture. Laughing

I guess not!

What can cause a new MV lamp to cycle temporarily before return to normal?
Also: I think CWA ballast have stable current/voltage than reactor, so that why its don't cycles on it.
rjluna2   [Jan 11, 2024 at 02:13 PM]
Probably not enough voltage drop to sustain current flow Confused
dor123   [Jan 11, 2024 at 02:26 PM]
But MV lamps have constant lamp voltage during life.
