American Electric Dura Star 2000 OK guys don't hurt your eyes LOL!! Thought this would be a great way to celebrate the additional space on GoL, by adding a pic of my Dura Ugly LOL Even though it's ugly,it is still interesting with the fiberglass housing and aluminum slip-fitter adapter. This is not as FUGLY as some of the LED fixtures I have seen. Just for the hell of it, let's see this thing lit.

the Reflector must be made of some sort of High Temperature Thermoplastic....Still...Metal seems like the Way to go...or Porcelain like a Radial Wave or Crescent moon!

Plastic reflectors actually perform better, as they are not prone to corrosion degradation, are easier to seal and allow more complex shape for advanced optical beam patterning. But why the ... the outer shell should have such crazy shape? The outer is clearly not one piece with the reflector, so there is no technical reason for such shape.

I imagine the reflector is similar to the plastic back housing of a car and truck headlight assembly with a reflective chrome layer. At least the lens is real glass LOL.

@ Medved: I don't know why the crazy shape,and the ignitor sticking out the bottom...it's not that easy to pull out without prying the locking tabs on the inside.

The ignitor....I have one....but it actually falls off too easily LOL, one shake...it drops!

if i had to use an AE Cobrahead id Go with a 125 or 325 over the Durastar.

Well for the 2000 it would be the 115 or 315 for the 3000 it would be the 125 or 325.

Yes i know that...but in chandler texas they Use AE 125's with 100 Watt Lamps!

I know some GE M-400s and GE M-400A1s with 175 watt MV and someone told me there was a 100 watt MV OV-25 Tudor in AA county

Well they make M-400 with lamps as small as 70 watts. Shocked That must be pretty odd especially the distribution.

It seems only a few places use them. I mean, they're pretty hideous looking but I'm sure the utility companies don't care about that. My only guess is that the DuraStars cost more than a 115 or 125 since they're so unpopular. Usually less popular items are more pricey. But since it's all plastic/fiberglass I woudl think it would still be cheaper... That's okay thouhg, I don't want to see more of these lol. Laughing

They were used strictly in 50W HPS up in the PUD Co-Op (Pascoag Utility District Co-Op) in Burrillville, RI but that's it around here.
