That is an older 3-piece arc tube here, Mike.

Ah are these fail-prone or was it just cheaper to use a different design?

Wow that's really unique looking!
xmaslightguy   [Sep 20, 2014 at 01:10 AM]
It looks pretty cool

How does the quality of Alto MH lamps compare to others?
streetlight98   [Sep 20, 2014 at 01:20 AM]
Their CMH lamps are pretty good from what i hear.
lite_lover   [Sep 20, 2014 at 01:21 AM]
I haven't tried any smaller wattages like the 100W CMH for dusk to dawn service yet,but the Philips ALTO 250W Retro White ceramic metal halide I have that operates on high pressure sodium ballasts is still going strong after about 5 years of dusk to dawn lighting.

I guess that's good to hear. I'm getting some Philips Alto F20T12/WWs next month.

Yep it's pretty good for a 15,000 hour CMH lamp. Ah nice,I haven't come across any WW Alto fluoro lamps yet, for the most part I've had pretty good luck with Alto lamps, they last a long time.

Ah For Philips Alto fluorescents, I've only seen 4100K and 6500K (CWP/D/S, and /DX) I've seen 5000K Philips lamps but not altos.

Nice lamp, I have like one Ceramic MH lamp, I think, but I am not sure. These are strictly pulse start, right?
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 20, 2014 at 03:36 PM]
I've seen them in person and I've seen 3500K ones on here and LG.

Yeah CMH lamps are all PSMH so technically they're CPSMH lol. Philips makes a CMH lamp called AllStart or something like that. It's a CMH lamp that will run on MH or PSMH ballasts (i think maybe HPS too?). They're a slightly reduced wattage too and are pretty expensive. I have a 400W CMH Philips lamp designed for use on a 400W HPS ballast. It's got the long thin HPS lamp envelope. The color is out-of-this-world crisp! I love it! I've only lit it up a couple times though since my 400W HPS ballast serves as a counterweight for my street light.
