Oh nice! What lamps are they for? Wow 1990 is early for an electronic ballast. I have a similar looking solid reflector turret with bi-pin pluger sockets for F40T12/RS lamps. Made by Cooper Metalux with an early-to-mid 90s Advance ballast. the socket leads and ballast leads are connected with orange block-shaped stab-in connectors instead of wirenuts though.

My school is full of these! Most are converted to T8, but the fixtures in the plumbing-heating department are still T12!

yeah my school's votech building has some of these in the utility/storage rooms. They're T8 now but judging by the paint aging, they're original to the 1970s building. They have slotted reflectors like these do too. BTW, looks like one of these is missing an endcap. I guess if you mounted these end-to-end in tandem you could hide the missing endcap.

Nice find! My highschool originally had turret lumes (F48HO) in the shops too. They got replaced by T8 retrofit kits (ugh) though. They kept the fixture bodies but scrapped the turret sockets and slotted reflectors and shoehorned T8 sockets in and new reflectors.

Thanks guys! Yes Mike,these are early electronic ballasts,they are for two F40T12 or F34T12. The fixtures were connected together and must have been in use for only a short time then sat in storage or something as they look like new,no scratches,dust or dirt. I got them both for $8.00 at the thrift store.

ahh so they're supposed to be end-to-end. makes sense lol... yeah mine was in its original box with all the parts (and about 50 random tek screws) but the box was opened. I noticed that, when mounted, my Metalux turret has a slight warp to it but still looks fine.

Yeah 1990 is pretty early for a electronic ballast even if it is T12. If they were mine, I might be tempted to convert at least one back to magnetic RS lol. Anyway do these look more like RS or IS when starting up?

I'm assuming these old electronic ballasts aren't potted so I'd use them in a cool dry location and try to avoid hot humid applications if you're planning to install these. Yeah I'd be tempted to convert them since electronic ballasts are boring but since they're so early (the ballasts that is) I'd want to leave them original.

Yeah, I think some of the older electronic ballasts were unpotted. Anyway I think they might be rapid start if they were made for T12s especially since it was a older one. Still I like to convert one half to magnetic RS or even preheat just to make things interesting lol.

Also regarding water dammage I replaced a advance IOP-2P32-SC the other day, not potted and it was dead, others around it survived the water leaking/ waterfall from the roof, the ballasts are junky anyways so maybe it was already on its way out

Thanks Aaron! These look more like IS Joe, they are a "soft start" rapid start and have about a 1 second delay when turned on and then light up instantly.

Have you tried an EOL lamp to see what it does?

No I haven't tried an EOL lamp,I will have to give it a try.

I tried a pair of EOL lamps and one of the lamps glows dim,the same result with one EOL lamp and a good lamp.
