Finally! This is what the future of streetlights should be like instead of the alien lights. I agree with you Mike

and this lens looks really good on this light too.

Yeah it does, man I wish Markham used these instead of metal waffles during their changeout.

Lol Joe metal waffles Laughing So far we are lucky here and not much yet in the way of LED street lighting.

LEDs are everywhere in my area now. My city will be 100% LED by the end of the year. Lots of the municipalities also have some sort of LED fixture installed.

My neighbourhood is still HPS but it seems a lot of other residential streets around here got changed to LED. Arterials are still mostly HPS though.

Most of the street lights in my town are high pressure sodium and currently there are only 4 mercury vapor street lights left, the rest of them were replaced in December 2008.

Almost all of the street lights here are high pressure sodium, some metal halide,LED was installed for a new round-a-bout not too far from me and a few spots I noticed in Vancouver are switching over to LED.

So far no LED street lights except for up in Northwestern RI in Burrillville where they have a Co-Op utility, which is replacing it's lights (DuraStars, 115s, OVHs,) with AEL LED lights. NGrid has announced no plans to offer LED street lights anytime soon however they encourage municipalities to purchase the ownership right for the existing street lights within their district from NGrid and then switch to more "green" technologies. So basically NGrid is saying "If you want LEDs, it's on you, not us", which works for me since that means LEDs won't be poping up for at least another couple years on side roads, as cities and towns need to work out a budget plan if they want to puchase the existing street lights and then buy LEDs.

I think NGrid is eventually going to get out of street lighting and the lights will eventually be all municipality owned like it is up in Ontario. When a city buys the street lights from NGrid, they basically pay the scrap value for the lights. Normally the cuty pays a flat-rate rental fee and a flat-rate estimated kWh charge annually. Instead, the city will only pay the estimated kWh charge and they will pay the rental fee for the pole space instead of the rental fee for the light. But when the city/town buys the lights, they have to use a contractor/maintenance company that's approved by NGrid. The company has to meet NGrid's requirements (the servicer MUST be a first class lineman for example).

I heard that the first LED freeway lights in RI will be going up outside of the Providence Place Mall on Interstate 95. The bases have been in for a couple months now ( i think since before thanksgiving, maybe just after Halloween) but the poles haven't been installed. Of course now there's a jersey barrier of snow on the sides of the freewys from the plows so the lights probably won't be installed for a while. The existing lights work but the lights originally alternated in a pattern: jersey barrier, shoulder, jersey barrier, shoulder. But all the shoulder poles are long gone so only the poles mounted in the jersey barrier are left (meaning the poles are twice as far apart) so even though the jerset barrier lights work, the shoulder poles are all gone for some reason and even the bases aren't there but I remember a couple of stray shoulder poles when I was little so they were there at one point... The existing lights are early 90s 250W HPS M-250R2s with individual PCs mounted on the 1957 davit poles that originally held OV-25 flatbottoms. So seeing how the wiring is likely original from over 55 years ago, it's due for an upgrade...
