Nice lamp. Smile Glad they still use the BT shape. Is there a reason the BT shape was sort of phased out in favor of the ED and ET shapes?

I think it was because the E/ED shape has a better light distribution and is easier to coat than a BT shaped lamp.

The BT shape has a lot more character though, I have one of these lamps too I got from a Ace store.

Hmm. I thought BT lamps had more even distribution because I lit my clear merc (ED28) in the yardblaster i used to own and you could see the "nipple" on the the wall across the room since the light was on its side. I lit my BT28 175W MH lamp in it (I figured since yardblasters tend to overdrive lamps, it would light up like it would usually on a MH ballast, which it did) and there was no shadow like there was with the ED28 lamp.

i totally agree with you on the character aspect. Were 200-400W HPS lamps always that long tubular shape or were they BT37 shaped until the ED shape took off?

Now wouldn't it be hilarious if they bought the rights to the 'Lifeguard' name? Laughing
lite_lover   [Sep 07, 2014 at 06:49 AM]
Yeah it would be 'Life-No-Gard' Laughing
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 07, 2014 at 02:42 PM]
Or if they really brought back those design features! Laughing

Andy; This Westinghouse has nothing to do with the old Westinghouse at all. This lamp is actually made under ABCo and sold under the Westinghouse name. The. These are just cheapo chinese made lamps so they wouldn't be able to use the lifeguard name or formula. If Philips wanted to, they could though since they own all the lamp patents and stuff.

I know this is Chinahouse but it would be hilarious that's all. What if BOTH Philips and Abco did? Laughing

I suppose Philips could start making them again but since ABCO owns the trademarks, I guess they're gonna have to call them Philips LifeSaver mercury lamps. Laughing

Laughing Perfect! Sold in the checkout candy aisle! Laughing I'd fill up a shopping cart with them if that was the case though, especially for like $1.49 each! Laughing

i think Philips owns the trademarks. They do for all the other lamps so i'd imagine they do for HID too.

Looks nice, but still it's a China bulb
