These contractors are replacing a 175w MV with an 85w induction. This is from the project where there is NO salvaging of the MV, LPS, HPS fixtures, ballasts, bulbs. The ligting Nazis prohibit any giving or selling replaced lamps or fixtures, and must be disposed/recycled at a certified recycler.

Nothing should be banned. Why ban light sources? Who cares if things aren't as efficient, if the person who uses the not-so-efficient ones they just can pay more money. Its up to the consumer, not the government.

Yeah I don't like this idea of banning light sources just because they're inefficient. I much rather them just put a tax on MV, magnetic ballasts, incandescent lamps instead of banning them outright ,sure it may be more but at least we could still buy them.

And the idea of forcing people to scrap working stuff is just wasteful, ugh Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [May 07, 2011 at 02:01 PM]
Well, they need to get the old stuff because it serves as proof that the new stuff was used where it was suposed to be used.
mercuryvaporrocks   [May 07, 2011 at 02:19 PM]
It's wasteful to throw something away that is still useful. Not everyone can afford today's newer lights today which are more expensive and won't last as long as older fixtures.

this and the cash for clunkers programs are incredibly stupid!....just stupid! Rolling Eyes

Devonte, you said plenty Razz

We have the same converstation at Internet Movie Car Database especially one member from Germany hated the equivalent of our Cash for Clunker program at his homeland.

UPDATE 8-20-11: They are finished with the project and many of the Induction lights have failed already.
gailgrove   [Aug 20, 2011 at 11:18 PM]
Rolling Eyes Not a huge surprise that many failed, and the HID lights likely had worked for decades without too many failures.
joe_347V   [Aug 20, 2011 at 11:19 PM]
Rolling Eyes Talk about being cheaply made, it's going to take more energy and money to replace this than it was to run to old HIDs.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Aug 20, 2011 at 11:31 PM]
What a waste of taxpayers money.
rjluna2   [Aug 21, 2011 at 12:27 AM]
There goes short-sighted bureaucratic insanity Surprised
GullWhiz   [Aug 21, 2011 at 02:30 AM]
It could be also THOSE guys in the picture to blame too...for doing a bad job too Laughing Maybe it's a punishment for being greedy and not giving others the old stuff....
mercuryvaporrocks   [Aug 21, 2011 at 12:13 PM]
I blame the government.

More of these bulb type inductions have failed, mostly the ballast/driver. We are trying to get some type of warrenty repair, or at least replacement parts. A few shoebox induction bulbs have just burst inside on thier own.
rjluna2   [Apr 13, 2015 at 11:21 AM]
What a joke here Razz
rlshieldjr   [Jun 23, 2016 at 10:58 PM]
We have been replacing a lot of these bulb type induction lamps, it is the ballast that fails. Some of the bulbs fails by separating from the base, falling away from the antenna rod. We have been installing a Mogul socket for the ease of using the 68w 277v large hog tails.
rjluna2   [Jun 24, 2016 at 11:09 AM]
I take that is poorly designed bulb Confused

The sad part is SOX-E is the most efficient, So if your an extreme environmentalist and have means of thinking (like me) led and induction is not a choice. The EPA should do their job, Elect me and they will not have one lol. Law, Federal EPA says all unless they are for emergencies (less than 8h a year) lights within 300ft of water (puddle counts) or anything that can house a bat has to be LPS or SOX-E. "anything that can house a bat" Me and my friends at the Federal level find this too funny. They have tried to give out fines but the current president's administration will not let them Crying or Very sad but that will change soon

Sadly these guys replaced about 12 or so 55w LPS fixtures with 2 X F32 fluorescent fixtures. Crying or Very sad

Federal EPA is now going to bypass president so they have the power to fine offenders now, I hope they pay a visit
