Luckily the bird was dried and cooked so it didn't smell and it was one of those really tiny ones, I would be really shocked if I found A FRIED GULL Laughing

that is Disturbing. Shocked

and Jace...dont be silly...a MOOSE in a streetlight? Razz
RCM   [Aug 29, 2010 at 12:08 AM]
I can imagine, a moose ON a streetlight, but not INSIDE one! Laughing
prawnman88   [Sep 21, 2010 at 01:12 PM]
those are not bees but yellow jackets aka a form of wasp
FGS   [Sep 21, 2010 at 01:32 PM]
Actually these little guys are paper wasps. If they were yellow jackets then this pic wouldn't be here. They're more aggressive than paper wasps.
GullWhiz   [Sep 21, 2010 at 03:41 PM]
I did some research.....Those are definitely paper wasps since this is the kind of nest they make and they are bigger than yellow jacket and the shapes is a bit different....a Yellow Jacket would build a nest with ONE hole opening....the honey comb here is exposed which paper wasps will build....while the yellow jackets makes round nests with a hole in the bottom. Paper wasps are a lot less aggressive and don't usually sting as much.

Even if there was yellow jackets there.....picture would STILL have been taken!!! Trust me.....I have dealt with yellow jackets myself.....with a nice hose of water and the yellow jackets themselves!

i think its possible for Bugs to get into a Cobrahead because most often there is a Gap near where the slipfitter enters the fixture.
GullWhiz   [Sep 23, 2010 at 12:46 AM]
The MO-8s you'll actually have birds getting in because of an opening below the socket...that is if a cover gets missing...(which is common since I never seen an orginal cover below the socket!
dbz77   [Apr 24, 2011 at 01:05 AM]
Amazing that they did not get a good dose of Raid.
GullWhiz   [Apr 24, 2011 at 02:47 AM]
Well they didn't attack the lineman.....so they get to be left alone Wink Only ones that ATTACKS get a good DOSE!
xmaslightguy   [May 15, 2011 at 01:44 AM]
YIKES! That is nasty! I hate wasps.
I woulda got the bug spray out for those no matter what....then the nest would be removed & burned.
gailgrove   [May 15, 2011 at 04:13 PM]
Yeah, if I become a line man, I'll have a spray first, ask questions later policy Laughing
GullWhiz   [May 15, 2011 at 04:33 PM]
Sometimes its better not to spray if they don't attack.....because if they don't attack you and you don't attack them....both of you are making peace......but if they attack....then attack back.....but if they don't attack you, and you try to attack them...then they WILL attack you...who started the fight??? YOU! Plus you will be dealing with poisonious smell.....

Attacking those that are not attacking is like starting a war to another country....that's my theory!

The pole outside has become home to a bee colony, who are using the top cable entry as the entrance. Will be fun if the Metro guys come to do something, as the pole will have a large number of what would be very angry bees inside. These are our normal African bees, they do like nests in high spots, and probably do have some nice honey in there, but I am not armoured like a honey badger, so will not go after any. The last nest near the front door ( under the birdbath) was removed by a local bee keeper along with most of the bees, they are not really dangerous unless disturbed, but that was too close to the door and where the kids play.

I know some members have left the light with awasp near on for a long time and baked them out of the fixture!
MercuryVapor175   [May 31, 2012 at 09:12 PM]
Use a blowtorch and burn them up!!! Laughing
NiMo   [Mar 10, 2014 at 10:31 PM]
What's even worse were those linemen that dealt with the old series circuits in the steel poles, especially without the end cap, you'd get squirrels climbing in there and gnawing at the insulation. I don't have to tell you the end result of that Shocked
streetlight98   [Mar 10, 2014 at 11:13 PM]
Aaron had a similar situation with squirrels getting trapped inside the shobox poles at a Walgreens that he was called to. I'm sure a series circuit really barbecues the squirrel though lol.
A_lights   [Mar 10, 2014 at 11:14 PM]
I was just about to mention that!

Fortunately, those European yellow stripe wasps (not yellow jackets) are not as aggressive as hornets or many other types, but they can still hurt! We sometimes store our machinery outside at work and I have to find ways to get rid of them before before doing servicing in the electrical boxes.
