It was an awesome meet up, it was so nice of him to give me my latest toy, the teardrop I was holding in the pic. I also received a bunch of bulbs he saved up for me, fluorescent lamps, HID lamps, and incandescent traffic signal lamps. We met in an area of LA known as Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley.

Nice to meet you guys Very Happy

That teardrop was once used by the city of Long Beach. It was originally incandescent, later converted to LPS. They all went in the LPS to HPS conversion in '96-'98. This teardrop currently lacks a socket.

Wow looks like fun! The tear drop Dave, you got, got looks like a GE? It's cool to meet up! I never met Dave in person, but we talked alot via video chat!
Silverliner14B   [Jun 26, 2010 at 05:12 AM]
Jace its a possibility that it's a GE. But I can't find any marks anywhere. Rick told me that someone told him he thinks its a GE.

The NEMA head looks similar to my gumball one...my gumball does not have any markings on it, same for my 1962 MV GE nema head, but it had a GE on the label......the NEMA head you have has a different slipfitter than mine though......

looks just like the Westy Teardrops in Waco and Mcgregor,Texas
rlshieldjr   [Jun 27, 2010 at 05:01 AM]
I'm glad you found out. There was a sticker that had "2" which meant 2500 lumen lamp. This was on a 6.6A series system. these were installed in the early 50s.

These teardrops were originally installed by SCE in the city of Long Beach. They were installed on fluted steel light poles in residential areas with overhead wiring. In the early 80s the city of Long Beach bought these lights from SCE and converted them to LPS. In '96-'98 a contractor replaced all of them with HPS M-250A2s and rewired the circuitry from series to multiple.

Hey Dave, that's awesome!!! It almost looks like teardrop fixtures were MADE for LPS! It looks like yours in the pic is full of goodies tho!!!LOL
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Aug 19, 2012 at 12:56 AM]
Are you going to use LPS in it Dave? I've never seen a LPS teardrop before...
Or you could stick a MV in it!
Silverliner14B   [Aug 19, 2012 at 03:51 AM]
I installed a NEMA mogul socket bracket in the fixture to use an imcandescent lamp or SBMV or a MV with remote ballast. Currently it's an inc.
