gailgrove   [Sep 04, 2010 at 02:03 PM]
Well so you would think but there are some two month old lights here that are out too Rolling Eyes
mercuryvaporrocks   [Sep 04, 2010 at 02:52 PM]
I see it all the time too where I live.
Form109   [Sep 04, 2010 at 10:02 PM]
it's a terrible shame that lights aren't lasting nearly as long as they should.
gailgrove   [Sep 04, 2010 at 10:47 PM]
Well the quality of all lights and lamps has gone down Rolling Eyes Heck the quality of just about every thing has gone down Mad
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2010 at 04:46 AM]
@Niall yeah I agree with what you say about the quality of lamps and lights and almost everything too.

I've also seem newly installed cobras fail after around 2 months or so and how thin the metal is in modern fluorescent fixtures when compared to one made during the 80's-90's and prior.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Sep 05, 2010 at 02:04 PM]
Lighting companies don't care about quality anymore, they only care about saving money.
GullWhiz   [Sep 05, 2010 at 07:23 PM]
It's probably the lamps....GE ballasts are often very good....

Sometimes modern HPS lamps act weird...they would stop working on certain ballasts..but work on different ballasts....so its some kind of more inconsistent manufactory...so far the ones with that issue are the Philips HPS which I know of....they just simply won't ignite...and only solution for that fixture is a new lamp!
Form109   [Sep 05, 2010 at 07:54 PM]
who makes the Worst HPS Lamps? Smile

Form109   [Sep 05, 2010 at 09:49 PM]
how are Sylvania Lamps?
gailgrove   [Sep 05, 2010 at 09:53 PM]
They from what I gather are the best Razz
mercuryvaporrocks   [Sep 05, 2010 at 10:01 PM]
The Sylvania ones are good.
GullWhiz   [Sep 06, 2010 at 02:28 AM]
Sylvania HPS lamps seems to have the most Xenon gas filling of all the HPS....
Form109   [Nov 29, 2010 at 10:49 PM]
How does the amount of Xenon in the lamp have anything to do with quality though?
streetlight98   [Oct 10, 2011 at 08:38 PM]
Well, it must be similar to the fact that more mercury content makes the lamps laat longer and be better quality.
Form109   [Oct 13, 2011 at 12:05 AM]
finally someone awnsered that question! Smile

Denver (Xcel Energy) Is starting to install BRAND NEW M-400 R2 FCO's. I saw a couple brand new ones installed and when I got my new 113 in the Truck there was one BRAND NEW M-400 R2 in the truck and I got to see it up close. I guess the brand new M-400 R2 FCO is Xcel's medium fixture choice these days while the M-250 R2 are the small fixture choice.
Form109   [Oct 14, 2011 at 12:31 PM]
these are the only Medium Sized streetlights installed now since wooden poles get nothing but small fixtures, these are mostly M400R2's but there's some OV-25's in there too.
